It is impossible to imagine a modern apartment or house without a table. Moreover, there are even several such pieces of furniture in our homes. They have different purposes. Some are used for eating, others are suitable for paperwork, while others become a living room decoration.
Desk stores today offer a huge variety, but if you want to save money, you can make one yourself. As a plus of this approach, one can single out the fact that the piece of furniture will have the dimensions that suit you.
Preparation of tools
Making a table should start with preparing everything you need. For work, you should take care of the availability:
- drill-driver;
- bit for screwdriver;
- electric jigsaw;
- wood drills;
- disc grinder.
Even for homework, a screwdriver chuck must have a diameter of at least10 mm. For a jigsaw you will need wood saws. You can use an angle grinder disc or fit an appropriate attachment to the drill.
Preparation of materials
When making a table, you will need certain materials. This section will focus on the technique of making a round table, so you will need a birch plywood circle. The diameter should be 1500 mm, while the thickness here is 35 mm. This material will go to the countertop. You should take care of the presence of a beam, it will form the basis of the legs. The size here should be equal to 3050 x 120 x 50 mm. You should take care of the presence of a plywood disk, the outer and inner diameters will be 1280 and 1040 mm, respectively. The thickness should be 20mm.
To carry out the work, two more plywood should be prepared, the dimensions of each of them should be 1060 x 120 x 20 mm. Instead of an array, you can use plywood. The upper texture will look no worse, and the structure itself will have higher strength. Plywood is needed for more than just countertops.
Production process
The table is made according to a certain algorithm. At the first stage, you need to take a beam, which is cut into 4 parts. The cross section in this case should be 120 x 50 mm. Construction beams usually have a length of 3050 mm, which is the standard value. This will just be enough for four legs of 760 mm. Materials are processed in three stages, while it is necessarywill sand the products and varnish them. Even with careful sanding, the wood fibers will bulge. But if you make a triple processing, you can achieve the desired smoothness and eliminate splinters.
The disc is cut out of 20 mm plywood, it will become a connecting link for the legs and will allow you to attach the structure to the tabletop without damaging the surface. Planks can be cut from the same sheet. A fastener that will be able to withstand a high load will be a confirmation. It must be extended - 5 x 180 mm. With the help of confirmations, the legs are screwed to the upper disk. Holes are drilled in the plane by 8 mm, and in the end - by 5 mm.
The top is molded from birch plywood, which should be 35mm thick. The diameter of the countertop in this case is chosen taking into account standard blanks. The outer diameter of the binding disc is 1280 mm and the inner diameter is 1040 mm. The legs are installed with the plane inside, so the planks will have the following dimensions: 120 x 1060 mm. Details are covered with alcohol stain. Toning can be done before finishing varnishing. Being engaged in the manufacture of the table, you can not cross-join the planks, since the table will turn out to be strong without it. One item can be placed above the other. But they should not interfere with the knees.
Computer desk
To make a computer desk, you should prepare:
- furniture pine board;
- board;
- sandpaper;
- plywood;
- varnish.
Forfor work, roller or ball guides will be needed, their length should be 500 mm. You will need 400 mm guides for a pull-out shelf, handles, self-tapping screws and dowels. Making a computer desk necessarily provides for the following tools:
- hacksaws;
- screwdriver;
- drills;
- square;
- chisels;
- grinder;
- roulettes;
- rulers;
- pencil.
Cutting blanks and assembling the frame
The main details of the table will be:
- tabletop;
- vertical walls;
- cap;
- bedside tables;
- bottom.
Vertical walls will need to cut off the front upper corners. The cuts should be rounded off with sandpaper. The rear lower corners of the walls also need to be cut off. This will allow you to install the post close to the wall. On the rear edge of the vertical wall in the center, it is necessary to make a sample of 200 mm, while deepening should be 18 mm. The table will not have a back wall, it will be replaced by a transverse panel, which will give rigidity to the structure. Without it, the table will crumble. Once all the details can be prepared, a hole should be drilled in the right places. After that, it is worth assembling the lower frame using self-tapping screws.
Working on the shelf
Drawings in the manufacture of the table are simply necessary. You can prepare them yourself or borrow from the article. Now you can dothe manufacture of a shelf where the system unit will stand. To do this, a horizontal shelf and a side wall are cut. The upper front corner of the side part must be cut off, round this knot with sandpaper. The rear lower corner is sawn under the plinth. Now you can screw the small sidewall to the shelf. After you need to attach the shelf to the side wall. Plinth panels close the lower openings under the shelf. Dowels will act as fasteners here, additional fastening to glue is not required.
Making the add-on
When making a table out of wood, you will need to take care of the superstructure. To do this, the side elements of this node are cut out. The upper front corners are rounded on them. Sidewalls are evenly fixed on a table-top. First you need to make an 18mm template. Holes are drilled in the ends, then the ends are applied to the lid to make the correct markup for fasteners. The holes in the tabletop must be through, and in the lower ends of the side walls - deaf. As soon as the sidewalls are installed on the countertop, it is necessary to check the geometry of the structure using a square. Self-tapping screws are screwed through the holes in the cover under the table.
Once the sides are screwed on, the shield can be cut lengthwise across the width. This will allow you to get two parts, one of them will be the top shelf, while the other will be a cross bar that acts as a side. It will be necessary to cut out the middle vertical wall from the shield. It is fixed to the countertop, while through the template it will be necessary to mark the holes, drill and screw in the screws. The linearity of the connections must be checked with a square.
Working on drawers
The walls of the boxes can be sawn from the board, while the bottom will be made of plywood. Four blanks are twisted with self-tapping screws. The bottom is attached to the bottom. The depth and width of the drawer will depend on the parameters of the nightstand and the width of the rails. The latter are attached from below. This way you can determine the location of the boxes.
It is necessary to retreat 18 mm from the front edge of the sidewalls, screw the guides to the walls. Between them it will be necessary to observe the distance and symmetry. When making a table from wood, you will need to cut the shelf, taking into account the thickness of the guides. After that, the computer table must be disassembled into parts, sanded and varnished. The parts are dried and reassembled. Self-tapping screws should not be screwed in and out several times. The nests may weaken. If the fasteners are not sure, you can strengthen the connections with glue.
Installation of facade panels
At this stage, it will be necessary to expose the panels in the opening of the front side of the cabinet. Wedges are great for this. For holes, marks should be made in the front walls of the boxes. At the next stage, the places of marks are traced. The cladding with the front walls is pulled together with screws, which are better to take longer ones, since the standard ones are not designed for such a thickness of the panels. Several self-tapping screws are additionally screwed into the lining from the inside, which will increase reliability. On this we can assume that the manufacture of a wooden table is completed.
Glass table: preparation of tools and materials
To make a glass table, you will need to prepare:
- four legs;
- sheet of special or ordinary glass;
- four leg suction cups;
- sandpaper;
- building adhesive;
- chipboard;
- vegetable oil;
- plywood.
To work, you will need the following tools:
- metal ruler;
- glass cutter;
- rubber mallet;
- felt circle;
- drill;
- file;
- Bulgarian;
- perforator;
- marker;
- pencil.
Glassworking
Making a glass table needs help. Therefore, you must enlist an extra pair of hands. In order to achieve a high-quality result, a sheet of glass must be laid on a flat surface, washed and polished well. Even if there are small particles of dirt on the surface, this can cause chipping. Use a pencil to mark the underside of the glass. With the help of a glass cutter, you will have to cut, having additionally practiced on a similar material.
At the next stage, you can do the processing of the edges of the workpiece. For this, a file, sanding skins and a grinder are used. Eyes must be protected with goggles. Sharp edges are gradually cleaned, it is necessary to start with the largest sandpaper. At this point, secure the edges and give them the desired shape.
Assembling and decorating
Making a desktop can also be done using glass. In order for such a piece of furniture to turn out neat, the assembly process must be taken responsibly. The finished glass piece is turned over to mark the places where the legs will be. They are removed from the edge by 10 cm. 13 cm should be retreated from the corner. In the upper part of the legs, you need to make holes for the suction cups, applying glue and fixing the elements.
The action of the suction cups can, of course, be enough for a reliable long-term hold, but it is better to apply additional glue. When making a table with your own hands, you must make sure that it looks neat, for this you need to choose the right glue, without going too far with its amount when applied. As soon as the composition dries, it should become completely transparent.
The surface of the tabletop can be decorated by attaching an adhesive film with a pattern to the bottom. An excellent solution would be the stained glass technique, which will allow you to put an interesting image on the glass using paints and stencils. Using glue, you can apply plastic pebbles, glass elements and rhinestones to glass, fixing them on the surface to get a bright piece of furniture. The manufacture of kitchen tables is also quite often carried out using this technology.
If you want to combine two materials, for example, wood and glass, then the table itself can be made using the technology described above, and a round sheet of glass can be laid on top, which will allow you to get a unique design. Between glass and worktoplay down the tablecloth.
In conclusion
In modern furniture stores you can find many options for tables that have a variety of purposes. They are usually based on chipboard, wood, plywood and glass. If you need a table, then it is not necessary to buy it, because you can make such a piece of furniture yourself, saving a lot. The technology for making the table is quite simple. This is especially true if this piece of furniture is based on chipboard. The material is quite affordable, which means it will save additional money.
