One of the most popular and favorite hybrid tea varieties of roses among flower growers in our country is the Kordes Brilliant rose. It is also called Red Diamond, Diamond or Miss Diamond.

Variety history

Rose Kordes diamond got its name from the name of the Kordes nursery, in which it was bred in the early eighties of the last century. The nursery is located in Germany and bears the name of the breeder who founded it. And the word "diamond" in the name of this flower speaks of its resemblance to a precious stone, with its brightness and indescribable play of shades in the rays of sunlight.

Plant characteristics

As you can see in the photo, Cordes diamond rose is a tall shrub, reaching a height of one and a half meters, with long, upward elastic branches, densely covered with bright emerald, glossy leaves of medium size, oval-elongated shape. The Cordes diamond rose blooms continuously throughout the summer, capturing September as well. Even if you do not cut off the flowering buds, the plant will not stop producing flowering shoots. The buds are collected in brushes. On one runup to three cup-shaped flowers are formed. The average flower diameter is about nine centimeters. The flowers of this variety are lush, double. One bud can contain up to forty petals. On average, each bud lives for about two weeks.

Each flower of the Kordes diamond rose is worthy of a separate description. The color of the buds ranges from red or fiery orange to scarlet. In bright sunlight, the flowers seem to shimmer and seem illuminated from the inside. The width of each bush reaches seventy centimeters, which must be taken into account when group landing.

In the description of the rose Kordes diamond it is said that the main advantage of the variety is its high decorative effect. But this is not its only merit. Undoubted pluses include:

  • Resistant to all major rose diseases, especially powdery mildew and black spot.
  • Resistant to frost.
  • During the rainy season, the flowers do not droop under the weight of moisture.
  • In landscape design, this rose is good as a solo plant, as well as in combination with other shrubs or as a background for undersized border plantings.

Landing

For landing choose a dry, sunny and well-ventilated place. In the penumbra, the Cordes diamond also feels good, but it does not bloom so profusely. Strong shading does not tolerate well. This variety does not impose high requirements on the composition of the soil. The main thing is that sheslightly acidic, with a high content of humus. One- or two-year-old seedlings are most suitable for planting. You can plant bushes with a closed root system throughout the growing season, and with an open one - at the end of August or in September.

Drainage consisting of sand and fine gravel is poured into the prepared pits, fertilizer is added, which includes rotted manure and peat bog mixed with the ground. The seedling is set straight, the roots are straightened and covered with soil so that the root collar is at least three centimeters deep. In order for seedlings to take root better, a few hours before planting, they should be kept in a solution of a root growth stimulator.

Care

According to reviews, rose Cordes diamond does not require complex care. It consists in frequent loosening of the soil, watering, top dressing, pruning and weed control:

  • Frequent loosening of the soil is necessary to improve air exchange between the roots and the environment. This is especially true in the first three years, when the shrub is actively forming its root system. After loosening the trunk circles, a mulching layer is required.
  • In the spring, a shrub that has reached the age of three needs sanitary pruning. The rose bush is formed in the form of a bowl, leaving five to seven buds on each branch. In autumn, pruning is carried out in order to remove diseased and damaged shoots, thinning out overgrown branches.
  • In May, it is recommended to treat the stems with sodium humate solution to stimulate lateral branching.
  • Feeding is done seasonally: in spring - with nitrogen, in summer- phosphorus and potassium. Regularly, especially before flowering, you need to make rotted manure.
  • In summer, the plant is watered with warm water at the rate of 15-20 liters of water per bush twice a week. By the end of summer, watering is reduced, and in September they stop altogether.
  • Throughout the growing season, faded buds should be cut off. In August, a couple of flowers are left on each shoot to form fruits. This is necessary so that the roses overwinter better and bloom profusely next year.
  • Kordes diamond care also includes regular weed and pest control.
  • For the winter, the shoots are shortened by two-thirds and covered with spruce branches, humus or loose earth.

The only downside of the Cordes diamond rose is the fact that, thanks to its bright colors, it overshadows all other plants in the flower bed, attracting all the attention. Nevertheless, a good designer will always be able to find a worthy partner for this beauty when designing his site.
