Every year the building materials market is replenished due to new developments of manufacturers that represent a variety of types of raw materials. At the same time, it can be noted that with the development of technology, product quality has improved significantly. In addition, the advent of modified elements and completely innovative processing and production methods makes it possible to obtain raw materials for construction with characteristics much better than previous products. Such products include glass-magnesium sheets, the use of which has recently been most common.
What is magnesium glass sheet?
Magnesium glass sheets (MGL) are plates consisting of two layers:
- The outer layer (on both sides of the sheet) is made of fiberglass mesh, which gives strength and resistance to various mechanical stresses.
- The inner layer consists of a filler (chloride and magnesium oxide, perlite) - environmentally friendly substances withantiseptic properties, which prevents the destruction of the structure and the appearance of fungal formations and mold.
Material application
Glass-magnesium sheets are already used in many countries in Europe and Asia. Widespread use is due to the excellent characteristics of the material, such as environmental friendliness, strength and resistance to various types of influences (temperature changes, chemical reactions, and so on).
LSU is used in the construction of premises for various purposes (industrial, residential, and the like). This building material is used in the "dry" type of installation work, which significantly reduces time costs. In this case, LSU can act as an alternative to the following materials:
- moisture resistant drywall,
- gypsum board,
- chipboard and fiberboard,
- OSB boards,
- flat slate,
-
plywood.
It can also be noted that the products go on sale with the surface already sanded, that is, it is not necessary to prepare the glass-magnesium sheet. The use of finishing materials is not limited, you can use all kinds of design patterns:
- tiles (ceramic, mirror and glass),
- wallpaper,
- aluminum composite panels,
- veneer,
- plastic.
Installation of LSU
Glass-magnesium sheets are usually produced in standard sizes - length 2.4 m, width 1.2 m and thickness 8 mm. In this case, the unpolished surface is considered to be the back side. This type of building material can be attached both to metal and wooden structures (using self-tapping screws), and to surfaces made of synthetic materials such as polystyrene, polypropylene (glue is used for connection).
Installation work can be carried out in the following order:
- Installing the crate. At the same time, when working with vertical surfaces (walls), it is important to remember the distance between the uprights: it should be 0.6 m. The ceiling is mounted with carrier profiles, which are installed at intervals of 0.4 m.
- Soundproofing. A tape can be applied to the back of the wall profile to prevent noise penetration.
- In the case of using self-tapping screws and screws, the holes for them must first be made with a drill.
- Fastening can be carried out both in the transverse direction and in the longitudinal direction. In this case, it is better to perform horizontal seams with an interval of at least 0.6 m. The distance between the LSU is from 3 to 5 mm, it is better to start fastening from the center of the sheet in increments of 0.2 m.
Quality performance of work in the construction of residential and other types of premises will ensure the use of materials such as glass-magnesium sheet. Its installation is quite simple if you follow the assembly rules.
