Blossoming liana can completely transform the look of your garden plot, wrapping around a wall, hedge or part of the house (for example, a terrace or attic).
Decorative perennial creepers we will consider in this article.
Kampsis - honey flowering liana
This magnificent plant impresses not only with abundant flowering that lasts for most of the summer, but also with beautiful bright foliage (each leaf is complex and consists of 9-13 small ones). Domed flowers (they come in all shades of red, orange, crimson), the abundance of which this blooming vine will amaze you, gather in inflorescences, which, in turn, are crowned with long graceful shoots. In one summer, the branches of the kampsis are able to grow by 2 m. In order for the fruits to appear, cross-pollination is necessary. The melliferous nature of the Kampsis should be mentioned separately - because of the seductive aroma, on which hordes of bees and other insects flock, it is not recommended that this flowering vine grow near the windows of residential buildings.
If you inadvertently planted it there, take care of the availability of reliable mosquito nets. Follow the simple rules when caring for campsis:
- Do not overwater the roots of this plant. Better yet, find out in advance how high the groundwater is on your site. This will need to be taken into account when watering.
- Protect the campsis from the wind, provide it with good lighting.
- Take care of soil fertility (Kampsis is unpretentious, but this plant will perceive an excess of nutrients in the soil as a signal for more lush and prolonged flowering).
- Cut off old faded shoots at the end of winter. At the same time, you can take care of giving the desired look to the plant.
Campsis is the pearl of vertical gardening.
It is also sometimes grown as small trees (low stem form). If you plant several varieties with flowers of different shades next to each other, the decorative effect will be simply amazing.
Hoya, or wax ivy
It is impossible to list flowering lianas for summer cottages and not mention hoya. Its creeping stems can reach 6 m in length. In addition, few perennial flowering vines have such a growth rate: in spring, hoya shoots grow a meter per week! Dark green glossy leaves are covered with whitish wax stains - this feature contributed to the fact that the plant was popularly called wax ivy. Fragrant flowers, pinkish in the middle, are collected in umbrella inflorescences. The older the plant becomes, the more magnificent and abundant it blooms. Hoya needs support. As such, a tree, gazebo or arch is suitable. In coldregions of Russia, unfortunately, hoya can only grow in a greenhouse or greenhouse, since the liana is thermophilic. In the middle lane, flowering will be scarce. Hoya should be watered abundantly, and in the fall - only a few days after the soil becomes dry. Remember, the leaves of this plant can provoke skin irritation, and the aroma of its flowers can cause a headache! It is convenient to propagate hoya by stem layering, as well as cuttings.
