Decoupage is not only an opportunity to update old furniture. This is a whole science that can turn a house into a handmade work of art. Any room will be transformed if you put a beautiful table in it. Having completed the decoupage of a desk for a child, you can transform his room. So you will make the time when the baby learns lessons more enjoyable and interesting. Especially if the decoupage on the tables was done by hand, and not bought ready-made in the decor store.
Take an old, shabby, boring table and turn it into a masterpiece. To do this, you need unvarnished furniture, coarse-grained sandpaper or a grinder, scissors, a set of brushes of different widths, napkins, a washcloth and some kind of cleaning agent. As for the pictures, there is a wide choice. These can be images cut out from printed publications, photographs, pictures printed on a printer and other paper elements you like. To make beautiful tables, decoupage is pre-assembled from different elements on the surface in the location in which they plan to glue.
Before decoupage is applied to the tables, the surface,to be decorated, you need to prepare. If this is a table made of laminated chipboard, then it is simply wiped and degreased. Alcohol is suitable for this, as its residues quickly disappear. If there are cracks or other defects on the surface of the table, then you need to fill them with a spatula and grind them with sandpaper. The entire wooden surface must be well sanded, dusted and coated with a primer. If you need to change the background on which decoupage will be applied, then it is best to choose acrylic paint for this purpose. If you paint the tables in a favorable color, decoupage on them will look very impressive. After the primer and paint are dry, we do a “fitting”, laying out the cut out patterns and photos on the table in the optimal location.
Cut out photos and pictures are lowered into a container of water, and then placed on a file or oilcloth with the picture down. Now very carefully remove the layers of paper on which the pattern is printed, and leave only the layer with the pattern itself. In order not to deal with the removal of layers, you can use drawings from magazines or other printed publications. There, the paper is much thinner and it does not need to be pre-moistened, and then remove the excess, you can immediately proceed to the sticker.
Lubricate the surface with PVA glue. We turn over the file or oilcloth and put it so that the picture lies in the right place on the table surface. Gently smooth the picture (without removing the oilcloth) to remove air between the picture and the table surface. After all the details have been placed in the manner described abovethe intended pattern on the table, you need to let the glue dry well. Then several layers of varnish should be applied to the entire surface of the table.
