Special tools are used to protect the surface of materials. One of them is varnish BT-577 (or "Kuzbasslak"). This product is used to protect metal, wood and concrete surfaces both outdoors and indoors.
Description
"Kuzbasslak" began to be produced even before the start of the First World War. Over time, its composition has changed slightly. Previously, R-4 was used as a solvent. Because of this, the varnish layer dried for a very long time (from 24 to 32 hours). Currently formulated with synthetic additives to speed up the drying process and give the finished surface an extra shine.
Lacquer BT-577 is a black liquid, homogeneous in composition and viscous in consistency, without foreign impurities. It is coal tar pitch dissolved in organic solvents (benzene, naphtha). Drying oils are not included in the composition. It is allowed to use the product together with a chemically resistant perchlorvinyl varnish in a ratio of 1: 1.
To improve quality and increase lead timeoperation of surfaces, iron minium (up to 30-34%) or aluminum powder (up to 15-20%) is added to it.
"Kuzbasslak", the average price of which is 50 rubles per 1 liter, is a solution of polymer resins, bitumen in organic solvents. Also, special additives are introduced into the composition, which improve the physical and chemical properties, performance characteristics.
Product Specifications
"Kuzbasslak" (we will discuss its application below) has the following protective and waterproofing properties:
varnish has good adhesion to various types of surfaces;
the product layer is glossy, durable, there are practically no pores;
Resistant to mechanical stress and heavy loads. After removing the load, the coating is restored to its performance;
withstands temperature fluctuations and severe frosts, does not crack from the cold;

The surface of materials treated with varnish is not afraid of frost, moisture (even sea water), exposure to the sun (ultraviolet), corrosion. After complete drying, it can be cleaned using detergents.
It is allowed to increase the viscosity of "Kuzbasslak" during storage. At the same time, before use, it is diluted with a solvent in an amount of up to 10%. This will not lead to a deterioration in the performance and characteristics of the tool.

Economy is another significant plus in favor of Kuzbasslak. Applying it in several layers does not entail high costs, since only 100-200 ml of the product is used per square meter.
Of the shortcomings, only one can be distinguished - the black color, which is difficult to cover with another means if necessary.
Lacquer BT-577 is not applied to the material in production. It is used already at the end of installation work.
Kuzbasslak: application
The product is mainly used to protect metal, concrete (reinforced concrete), brick surfaces from the influence of atmospheric factors. As a waterproofing agent "Kuzbasslak" can also be used. Wood application is another area of use of this composition. This is done to prevent the wood from rotting.
To protect cars (mostly the bottom) from corrosion, Kuzbasslak is also used. The use of the product is also justified in cases with other equipment: to protect trailers, carts, towbars, and so on.
BT-577 is used for gluing roll or sheet materials when laying the roof. It does not require the use of open flames, reducing the risk of fire.
When used"Kuzbasslak" until the moment of applying the paint (other paint and varnish compositions), it will replace the primer layer.
Applying the product
The product is applied in various ways: with a brush, rags, roller, spraying with a spray gun. Individual parts of small dimensions can simply be dipped into the varnish solution.
The surface to be treated must be clean, free of dirt, dust and rust.
Kuzbasslak is applied in several layers (usually two or three layers are enough). Drying time depends on temperature and can vary from several hours to days. As a drying accelerator, you can use a desiccant, which is added to the solution.
Use the product is allowed in the temperature range plus 10-20 degrees. For storage, the temperature should be between minus forty and plus forty degrees.
Lacquer BT-577 is a poisonous substance. Therefore, all work must be carried out with the use of personal protective equipment and other safety requirements.
