Very often there is a need to lay various communications under the carriageway or railroad tracks. The technology to do this is called “punch under the road” and is most often horizontal drilling. This method has clear advantages over other types of communications. Unlike a trench device, a puncture under the road does not violate the integrity of the road surface and does not damage green spaces. In addition, there is no need to carry out a large amount of excavation work. This method is known as trenchless laying of communications.

What you need for an independent puncture device under the road

To make a puncture under the road with your own hands is quite a doable task. However, its length should not exceed ten meters. Before you get started, prepare everything you need. You will need:

  • Bulgarian;
  • large heavy hammer or sledgehammer;
  • strong steel bars, the length of which together exceeds the width of the road by 10-20 cm;
  • pump, hose and funnel;
  • 100-200 liter large water tank;
  • sections of steel pipeline, the total length of which exceeds the width of the carriageway by 15-20 cm;
  • welding machine.

Procedure for operation

First you need to dig small pits on both sides of the road. Their depth should be greater than the depth of the pipe. From one pit, the pipe will be advanced deep into the ground. The second pit will be receiving.

Using a steel bar, mark the path of the pipeline. Using a grinder, sharpen one end of the pin and start driving it into the ground along the course of the future pipeline. To prevent the rod from bending from blows, its length should not exceed 1.5-2 meters. Having driven in one segment, weld another pin to its end and hammer it again. Continue working until the point of the first cut appears in the receiving pit.

Now you can start the main work. On the axial rod, put on the first piece of the pipeline, the front edge of which is treated with a grinder, giving it the shape of a pointed crown. This will provide easier entry into the ground. Put a steel cup on the other side of the pipe and start hitting it with a sledgehammer.

Then immerse the pump in a barrel of water, and push the hose into the pipe to the end. The water pressure acts as a lubricant and facilitates the movement of steel, and also helps to wash out the waste soil from the pipe.

All subsequent work consists of alternating two actions - washing the soil with water and pushing the pipeline with a hammer. Continue until the first piece of pipe appears in the pit on the opposite side of the road.

As you can see, making a puncture under the road with your own hands is not so difficult. The result should be a hollow pipe with the same guide rod inside. This pin can now be easily removed, as the water washed all the soil out during the work. Use the resulting pipeline as a case for holding a second tight pipe of a smaller diameter.

If the length of the planned communication exceeds 10 meters, then a more rational option would be to contact specialists.

Horizontal directional drilling method

This method of puncture under the road is to create a pilot horizontal well or a through hole of a given diameter, into which a case or a pipe for communications is pulled. HDD is never carried out in dry ground. During the drilling process, a constant supply of water is produced in order to make the soil more plastic and pliable, as well as to prevent the collapse of the walls of the resulting well. After the hole is created, the pipeline is pulled into it. To do this, on the one hand, a special tip or cap is put on it, which is firmly fixed. On the other side of this case, a drill is fixed. With the help of special equipment installed on the opposite side of the road,the pipe is pulled into the puncture. After completion of work, a small part of the pipeline, on which the pull cap was fixed, is cut off. Based on this, it is necessary to calculate its length with a margin. The pulling of the communication pipe is also accompanied by a water supply for better sliding along the well.

Method benefits

The horizontal directional drilling method saves time and labor resources, as it does not require the removal of the asph alt or concrete road surface. This method does not have a destructive effect on the natural landscape. The HDD method can be applied in a variety of conditions - under highways, under water bodies, under park plantings, railway tracks and other objects. It is also beneficial to use this type of trenchless drilling in an economic sense.

Controlled puncture

The area where it is planned to carry out a puncture of the soil under the road is being preliminary investigated. After that, a project is created, in accordance with which, along the intended trajectory, a safe drilling of a horizontal well is carried out, bypassing all possible obstacles. The drilling machine is equipped with a special blade with a cutting nozzle. It has a built-in location system probe, which allows you to accurately control the movement of the drill, the direction and depth of the future pipeline. The position of the probe is monitored by a specialist with a locator, moving along the road surface and observing the locator monitor readings. Man operating a drilling machinealso receives all the necessary information for the accuracy of the manipulation. To prevent shedding of the well, its walls can be treated with a special mixture of clay and polymeric substances. This lubricant is called bentonite.

Service cost

What is the cost of a puncture under the road? The price level depends on several factors. A guided puncture using location equipment will cost more than an unguided one. If you need to lay a short pipeline, then a conventional drilling machine that is not equipped with a drill path tracking system will do the job. The device of an extended well, on the contrary, requires constant monitoring and adjustment using a location device. Russian companies offer services to create a puncture under the road at prices from 1000 rubles per linear meter, which is usually cheaper than open methods of laying communications under the roadway.
