As for the second category, everything is somewhat more complicated with it. If in a situation where we purchase an apartment at our own expense, the living area (more precisely, its size) is limited only by our budget, then in the case of a social tenancy agreement, there are a number of very specific restrictions and norms. It is these restrictions that are called social norms. Let's focus on them.

So, living space according to the standards of our state. In other words, the premises that the municipality or other authorities provide to people. Let's start with the fact that the existing standard defines the amount of total (and not residential) area per family member. So, if one person lives in a state-owned apartment, then he is en titled to a room of at least 33 m22. In a situation where a family consists of two citizens, they must be provided with a room with a living area of at least 42 "squares". Three members of the "cell of society" can become owners of 18 m2 each.

Depending on existing regional or other benefits, citizens can count on additional footage. Living space can also be increased in a situation where one of the family members living in a particular room suffers from a serious chronic illness. To date, in our country there is no single list of categories of the population that have the right to receive additional square meters.

In general, social norms can be divided into three types (according to their purpose):

  • The criterion according to which citizens can be registered as in need of housing.
  • A parameter that serves as the basis for the payment of subsidies and compensations of various kinds.
  • Indicator that determines the area of the premises required for living.
