For the production of columned I-beams, hot rolling is used, the procedure of which is carried out on steel rolling mills. Currently, there is a general classification and labeling. According to this document, such products are marked with the letter "K", and all requirements for the quality of the material and the process of its production are prescribed in GOST 26020-83.

Thanks to this, we can say with confidence that the strength and rigidity of this product is much higher. In addition, it significantly expands the scope of its use. For example, an I-beam in cross section equal to 30 cm marked "B" will weigh about 33 kg. But if we take the same section for the column type, then its mass will be about 87 kg (twice as much). One of the distinguishing features lies also in the fact that the beam faces can be located at different angles. This means that it is possible to change it for each application, which will further increase the strength and rigidity of the structure on an individual basis.
