Garden watering can –
this is a common garden tool that every gardener has. As a rule, this device is completely ignored, but exactly until the time comes to replace it. And here comes the problem: a new garden watering can almost always turns out to be worse than the old one. Let's try to determine why this is happening. And learn how to choose the right inventory.
Power of habit
A person gets used to his garden tool and adapts to it. If you remember, the same thing happens with new shovels, pitchforks, rakes: at first, the inventory seems terribly inconvenient, but after a while it passes. Naturally, if there are no frank flaws in the design that prevent normal operation. A garden watering can is no exception, and over time you can get used to a new acquisition. Those gardeners who find the addiction process especially painful are advised to purchase a container of the same shape and size as the old one.
Plastic or metal
Before you stop on one or another model, you need to decide on the material. So, watering canmetal (garden) or plastic - which is better? Both have their pros and cons, so let's take a closer look at each.
A metal watering can is either a galvanized garden watering can or a watering can made of ordinary sheet iron. They are easy to distinguish by their appearance: the galvanized container pleases with a natural metallic sheen, the sheet iron sprinkler is always painted in order to protect against corrosion. However, you should not rely on a protective zinc coating or a layer of paint - a metal garden watering can will rust and leak sooner or later. Welds are most often damaged - these are the most vulnerable places. However, a metal watering can can be repaired, but it is better to immediately replace a plastic container with a new one. Another minus of a metal sprinkler is a lot of weight.
A plastic garden watering can looks more preferable against a metal background, however, only at first glance. Here, too, there are pitfalls: some plastic containers can easily deform under the weight of water, from temperature changes and other factors. The fact is that plastic is different. Watering cans, like many other household items - buckets, bathtubs, containers - are made of polypropylene or polyethylene. Polypropylene is highly susceptible to negative environmental factors, it can be deformed even from sunlight, so you should not buy a container made of such material. You can recognize a product made of polypropylene by marking "PP". High density polyethylene is a more reliable and durable material, itscan be recognized by the marking "HDPE".
Sizes
Garden watering can should be selected individually, for each person. A he althy man will easily carry a 10-12-liter container, a woman or a teenager is better off taking a smaller watering bowl - 6-8 liters. The diameter of the nozzle at the diffuser should not exceed 2.5 cm, otherwise the pressure will be too strong. It is worth paying attention to the diffuser itself - it should be removable, with frequent trapezoidal holes.
Final advice. An experienced gardener is never limited to one watering can, he always has several of them - for all occasions. Therefore, get yourself several watering cans of different sizes and with different water supply systems, or buy one, but with different nozzles.
