When reconstructing an old building, a serious issue is the choice of roofing material, the use of which would help preserve the original appearance of the structure. One of the few materials of this series is the "Granite Cloudy" metal tile.
Moreover, today this type of metal tile is practically the only roofing that imitates ceramics. Moreover, the imitation is not only in profile and shape, but also in the heterogeneity of coloring, which is typical for baked clay products.
Material advantages
An inexperienced consumer wonders if it would be easier to use natural tiles. Yes, it is simpler, but this step is not always justified - when comparing the "Claude" metal tile with natural ceramic material, the first one has a lot of advantages:
- Durability. Already after a few years of operation, the surface of the ceramic plates becomes stained and begins to break down. The fact is that natural ceramics haveporous structure. Moisture penetrates inside the pores, which freezes at sub-zero temperatures and destroys the material. This happens very quickly due to the numerous periods of freezing and thawing. Metal tiles do not have pores, so they are not afraid of the negative effects of frost and thaw.
- Small specific gravity. Each square meter of metal "Claude" weighs about 5 kg, bituminous tiles - two, and ceramic - 8 times more. For old buildings, this factor is very important, since their walls and foundations no longer have the proper strength. The use of new material allows to extend the life of old structures, which is very serious when it comes to old buildings that have important architectural or historical significance.
Material features
In the photo of the metal tile "Claude" in the section, its main highlight is visible: the material consists of several layers:
- The basis for the manufacture of sheets of this type of roofing is galvanized rolled steel.
- An aluminum-zinc passivation layer is first applied to the steel base, then it is coated with a primer.
- Last of all, a specially designed substance is applied - a special polymer. In order for the coating to withstand weather and natural factors, its thickness should not be less than 35 microns.
There are irregularly shaped spots on the final layer. They are very similar to clouds (in English - cloudy), which explains the namematerial.
The back of the sheet has the same coating as the outside.
Covering Description
The colors of the "Claude" metal tile are all shades of brown and red with smoky spots of smooth shapes. Moreover, the reddish-brown gamma was chosen specifically to imitate the natural coating of unpainted baked clay. Remarkably, this material has one feature: when viewed from different angles, the color of the coating looks a little different.
As for the profile, the metal tile is available in three versions:
- "Maxi".
- "Supermonterrey".
- "Monterrey".
The second option is considered the most expressive.
For the convenience of working with the material, the sheets are cut at the factory to a length that is suitable for covering the roof of a particular building. This figure can vary from 50 centimeters to 8 meters. Important detail: the shade of products in each individual batch may differ slightly from the plates from others, therefore, in order for the roof to have the same surface color, you need to purchase material from one issue and in sufficient quantities.
Specifications
The main features of the "Claude" metal tile are the following indicators:
- The coating used is a special polymer.
- Metal thickness - 0.45-0.7 mm. The choice of base in each case depends on how thick the final product should be.
- Galvanized thickness - 275 g/m2.
- The plates have a matte smooth surface.
- Service life while maintaining appearance - 10 years.
- Perforation corrosion can only occur after 30 years (manufacturer's warranty).
Standardization basics
Judging by the reviews, the "Claude" metal tile is in demand on the market for roofing materials. The popularity of the material is due to its high performance, beautiful appearance and excellent quality. Moreover, in order to ensure product quality, the manufacturer - ArcelorMittal - systematically conducts tests to verify compliance with ASTM, ISO, ES standards. The material is checked for the following characteristics:
- Elasticity of the polyurethane coating and adhesion to the substrate.
- Scratch resistance percentage.
- Anti-corrosion resistance.
- UV resistant.
Installation details
The technology of laying metal tiles "Claude" is the same as the metal tiles of other types and brands. First of all, the rafter system is mounted, then the vapor barrier, waterproofing, and, if necessary, insulation are laid. Next, arrange a crate of wooden beams. Before work, wood materials are treated with antiseptics and antipyretics. The bars are fixed only with the help of special self-tapping screws with sealing washers.
Important detail: if during installationit is required to cut off a part of the sheet, the cut line must be covered with paint - this will protect the metal base from atmospheric moisture, which is fraught with the destruction of the roofing material.
In addition to the main canvas, when arranging the roof for the highest quality result, you will need to use other elements - ridge, wind and cornice parts. Moreover, you have to work very carefully with ridge elements - you must definitely install a round ridge bar. These products are equipped with plugs. Self-tapping screws are used to fix them to the ends of the roof. If a flat bar is installed on the ridge, the plugs are not installed, but the insulation material is laid under the roof covering on the ridge. Lastly, the drainage system is installed.
