Just 10 years ago, it was believed that only a select few could have two cars. But more and more often we have to deal with situations where a second means of transportation is indispensable. For example, a small car is ideal for city driving and makes it easier to find a parking space at a store. But it is completely unsuitable for a trip out of town, this requires a more powerful transport. There can be many reasons for buying several cars, but the result is the same - you have to decide what the dimensions of the garage for 2 cars should be. At the same time, it is important to take into account many nuances, but if the requests are quite simple, you can get by with standard numbers.
Optimal garage size for 2 cars

The main task in the design is to create conditions under which both cars can freely enter the garage, and the driver can open the door without damaging it. The minimum in this case is the size of 5 meters in width and 5.5 in length. But the operation of a room with such dimensions will be extremely problematic, therefore it is considered that the most comfortable size is 6.8 by 7 m.
How to calculate the width of the garage
This dimension should allow the driver to park both cars so that there is a passage between them. Naturally, the distance from the wall should also remain. These are the simplest requirements. But often the garage is used not only as a place to store a car - bicycles, strollers and much more are left here. Don't forget about shelving, which can be placed against the side walls of the garage.
The most convenient distance from the wall to the door of the car is 1.1 m, provided that you are going to store the bike there. Otherwise, half a meter is enough, but this only applies to the side on which the passenger door is located. From the driver's side, the distance should be 0.9 m or more. The same applies to the distance between cars.
When planning to place storage systems in the garage, keep in mind that it is not enough to allocate space equal to the dimensions of the shelves. It is also necessary to ensure freeapproach to them - as a rule, it takes about 0.5 meters.
Which length to choose
Most often, storage systems are located in the back of the garage. A trailer or boat can also be stored there. Some owners allocate additional space for the workshop. All this affects the size of the garage for 2 cars in length. Things to consider:
- what is the length of the car;
- leave at least 1.1 m in front of the hood in order to ensure a convenient approach to the door located in the gate;

Gate dimensions
A garage is more than just walls and a roof. It is also important to choose the right size of the gate so that both cars can enter and exit freely. Once you have decided on what size garage for 2 cars will be optimal in your case, think about what the entrance will be. There may be two options.
One gate - usually they are made about 5-5.5 meters wide. Their installation may be associated with additional difficulties - providing additional rigidity to a heavy canvas and a high rate of heat loss. It is most convenient to use the gate to enter and exit the driver.
If there are two gates, each of them should be approximately 2.5 m wide. Usually the opening is equal to the sum of the width of the car plus a margin of 20 cm on each side.
