To lie down, luxuriate in comfort and coziness, man has created many different pieces of furniture. In every era and culture, there are several types of sofas, among which a single ottoman occupies a special place. In some countries it is called an ottoman, a sofa or given other names, but the shape remains almost unchanged: small backs, thin legs and compact size distinguish it from other varieties.
What is the difference between an ottoman and a sofa
The traditional sofa has a soft back and a wide seat that comfortably accommodates several people. In some designs, armrests are provided - either as soft as the back, or rigid, made of wood or metal. Most sofas can be laid out and transformed into a bed.
It is believed that the ottoman was first created in Asia and was a kind of narrow bed, devoid of a headboard andfoot. Modern manufacturers prefer to make furniture with a low back and one or two armrests. The transformation device, as a rule, is absent. In some cases, a single ottoman is equipped with a lifting mechanism of the same name, which gives access to a built-in drawer.
The benefits of an ottoman
Unlike a sofa, an ottoman is intended primarily for sleeping, therefore it is equipped with a comfortable, even mattress. Thanks to its comfortable shape, it serves as an excellent bed for daytime sleep, and will also come to the rescue if you need to accommodate guests who stay overnight. Although such furniture is not intended for daily nightly rest, in conditions of limited living space, a single ottoman bed may well provide a good night's sleep for several years. This option is often chosen for equipping comfortable and compact children's rooms.
Another important advantage of an ottoman is its low cost: compared to an ordinary sofa, the price of an ottoman is usually one and a half to two times lower. Of course, it all depends on the materials of the frame and upholstery, as well as on the brand of the manufacturer, but in any case, the ottoman is relatively cheaper.
An ottoman in the interior of the apartment
Compact single ottoman takes up very little space and easily adapts to the interior of small rooms. It can serve as the main sofa in the living room, as well as an additional seating area. Such furniture can also be supplemented with an office, kitchen or nursery. Thanks to the absencewide armrests, it requires significantly less space than a traditional sofa, and a single ottoman with a box for linen can serve as an excellent storage system.
Among the variety of modern upholstered furniture, the ottoman occupies a special place. Due to its low cost, compact size, even mattress, a variety of upholstery materials and the presence of a convenient drawer under the seat, it is in demand and fits well into the interior of any room. A single ottoman can replace a bed in a children's room or serve as a comfortable place to relax in the living room.
