Broken glass in the door is not only a deterioration in the sound insulation of a room, but also a damaged interior in a house or apartment. And be that as it may, but the issue of correcting the current situation becomes relevant. You can, of course, buy and install a new door, but a banal glass replacement will be much cheaper.
Modern interior doors are equipped with glass of various qualities: from fragile to extra strong and even fire resistant. Various color schemes allow you to choose options that fit perfectly into the interior. But a strong closing of the door, an accidental blow or slamming it with a banal draft can damage even such products. And if it so happened that you broke the glass in the door, then the first step is to remove all the fragments so as not to cut yourself at least. Start with large pieces of glass, then vacuum the floor and door to remove small and hard to see pieces.
Replacing broken glass is carried out in several stages, each of which is very important. In general, this procedure is not particularly complicated and does not require anyspecial skills or abilities, but you still have to make an effort, especially if the glass was of a non-standard shape. You should also take care of your own safety and wear gloves. Nylon-coated cotton is best.
Dismantling
First of all, you should remove the broken glass from the door leaf. To perform this operation, you must first remove the frame or glazing beads that hold it. This should be done carefully so as not to damage the decorative layer, as they will have to be mounted back. For convenience, it is better to remove the door from its hinges, because it is much easier to work with it in a horizontal plane than in a vertical one.
Preparing the canvas
Next, prepare a glass sheet from which a new insert will be cut. The color and structure of the glass can be chosen at your own discretion. But in order to prevent or at least minimize the likelihood of a recurrence of the situation, you should turn your attention to options with increased strength. But do not take the thickest and most durable copy, as the glass may not be suitable for your door. Therefore, before going to the store, it will not be superfluous to measure the gap under the glass. The purchased canvas should be wiped with a rag or cleaned with soapy water. Also, before starting work, it must be kept at room temperature, otherwise you can easily get a new broken glass.
Open
After preparing the canvas, nothing prevents you from starting to mark it. If the shape of the insert is simple and single, then it can be immediately drawn on the canvas. If it is non-standard or there are several of them, then it is better to first practice on a piece of paper on a scale, for example 1 to 10, in order to reduce the amount of waste. If there are large sheets of paper or cardboard, then the pattern can be done differently: attach them to the hole in the door and outline the outline with a pencil or felt-tip pen, then cut it out with scissors, and make an image on the glass sheet using the resulting template.
Cutting
This must be done on a flat surface. When carrying out such work in a straight line, a glass cutter and a ruler are used. If you want to make a curvilinear shape, then you should prepare small stencils from fiberboard, on which you can already perform the operation. Cut towards you and once.
Installation
The cut glass is installed in the door leaf and fastened with glazing beads or a frame that was removed at the stage of dismantling the fragments. This way you can replace the broken glass with a new one.
