Carpets are no longer in fashion, but the paintings and photographs on the walls are modern, aesthetic and extraordinary. Placing canvases is one of the most expressive ways to express your individuality. Taking into account one “but”: if the decorative element fits harmoniously into the interior. Therefore, how to hang a picture on the wall should be considered in advance.
On the one hand, hammering a nail into the wall is not a troublesome matter, solved in a matter of minutes. On the other hand, even the most beautiful landscape can spoil the look of the room, and an unpretentious reproduction of Malevich's "Black Square" will turn the living room into a luxurious apartment. In order for the interior and works of art to complement each other, it is necessary to hang beautiful paintings on the wall according to certain rules.
Height
The most common mistake is painting too high. Such an image is not conducive to contemplation and looks rather strange. How is the optimal level for the canvas determined? How to hang a picture on the wall correctly?
- Get upopposite the place where the picture, photograph or panel will eventually hang.
- Mark the level where the naturally cast gaze rests (without raising or lowering the head).
- From the bottom edge of the cloth of the picture, mentally step back a couple of centimeters. It is this part of the image that should be at the marked level. But this is provided that the ceilings in your house or apartment are high. If they are low, then you need to retreat not 2-3, but 6-7 cm from the bottom edge of the canvas.
Lighting
Pay attention to how the light falls on the picture. Lighting should be uniform, without glare and shadows. The ideal option is individual lighting with halogen lamps.
Pattern location
The volume of the room dictates its terms. It must be taken into account when deciding how to hang a picture on the wall. Vertical canvases give the impression of high ceilings in the room, while horizontal ones increase the width of the walls.
Group pictures
In the case when it is supposed to hang several paintings on one wall, you should pay attention to their combination with each other. There are three options for harmoniously combining different canvases into one composition:
- on topic;
- by style;
- by color scheme.
Regardless of how many paintings will be nearby, three or more, keep in mind that the central picture is the main one. She gets the priority. Based on this, plan the spatial placement of the paintings relative to each other.
Methods of fastening cloths
- If the walls of your room are made of wood or red brick, then the surest solution to the problem of how to hang a picture on the wall is to use the good old and reliable way - to drive in a nail.
- A concrete wall will require a little more effort and a more sophisticated tool - a hammer drill or impact drill. With their help, you need to drill a hole in it, screw a screw into it or insert a dowel and hammer a nail into it. With this method of fastening, the picture will hang securely for as long as you like. But the desire to outweigh it in this case can be a problem. After all, there will be a hole made in the wall.
- For plasterboard walls, you need to use special dowels "butterflies", which are inserted into the prepared hole and rest against the wall from the back side with special spacers. Thus, the risk of slipping out of the hole over time is eliminated. Next, a screw is screwed into the dowel in the usual way, on which the picture is hung.
- How to hang a picture without nails? If the picture is light, then double-sided tape is best. In this case, 4 strips of adhesive tape are glued on the back of the canvas at the corners of the frame.
- Relatively recently, special hooks with a sticky back side appeared on store shelves. The advantage of using them is that they do not leave marks on the wall after they are removed.
- To hang a picture without drilling a wall, thermal glue will help - the so-called "liquid nails", which are available in department stores. How to use them is described in detail in the instructions. Hot nails work in a similar way.
- In addition, special hooks with four studs are on sale. Don't let the latter scare you. After them, almost indistinguishable holes remain on the wall, so such hooks can also be attributed to a gentle method of attaching paintings. With a hammer blow, strong carnations are driven into the wall, and the hook is ready to withstand a rather weighty picture.
- Another way to hang a picture without nails works well for light and small canvases. Take not a plastic, but a natural cork from a champagne or wine bottle, cut it in half lengthwise or across, screw a screw into the prepared part, and glue the cork to the wall in any convenient way. If you have any doubts about whether such a hook will withstand your picture, then it is more reliable to fix it on two such structures.
