Rolled roofing materials are widely used in roof construction. The roof of them is one of the most inexpensive and simple in terms of manufacturing technology. Despite the relative cheapness, with the observance of all technologies, a four-layer coating of roofing material will serve as long as a metal roof made of galvanized steel. However, a roof made of roofing material has one significant drawback - it is highly flammable.
Soft roofing materials are laid in several layers, each of which has a specific function. The bottom layer is coverless materials (lining), and the top layer is covers. The main feature of the coating material is the presence of a layer containing dressing (pulverized, fine-grained or coarse-grained) and refractory bitumen.
The most commonly used roll roofing materials are glassine, roofing felt and roofing material. They are very easy to fit. They are used on roofs with a slight slope on a solid base.
One ofThe main properties of soft roofing materials are water tightness. This property is preserved only with the complete integrity of the material, that is, in the absence of gaps and cracks.
In order for the roof to be of high quality and durable, roll roofing materials must meet the following parameters:
- strength at break (material is torn into strips of 5 cm, and the more force is applied, the stronger the material);
- material resistance to heat;
- The flexibility of a material is measured by the lowest temperature at which cracks do not appear when bending on the rod.
Roofing materials. Species
Depending on the basis, roll roofing materials are of the following types:
- according to the design of the canvas - baseless and basic;
- by the type of components of the coating composition - polymer, bitumen, bitumen-polymer;
- by type of base - cardboard, asbestos, fiberglass, polymer and combined;
- according to the structure of the protective layer - with foil or film, with scaly, dusty, coarse-grained, fine-grained.
Also, depending on the binding components, they are polymer-bitumen or bituminous.
Bitumen roofing materials have a low price and lower quality compared to polymer-bitumen. The disadvantage is the low level of frost resistance. However, this material is often used for internal waterproofing of buildings, due to moisture resistance.
Polymer-bitumen roofing rollmaterials have much more advantages than the previous ones. However, their price is also higher. They have a high degree of strength and reliability, resistant to very low and high temperatures. These qualities are decisive when choosing roofing materials for the harsh climatic conditions of our country. These materials can last for about 25 years, subject to the technology of manufacturing and laying the roof.
With a sufficient range of soft roofing materials, bitumen-polymer rolls are a new modern word in roofing. However, when choosing, you must prioritize yourself and decide what is more important for you: price or quality?
