Exhaust diffuser is a device that facilitates the removal of used air from the room. This device may have other names such as "air diffuser", "nozzle", "membrane".

Destination

The diffuser and the ventilation grill are, in fact, the same device, but with a different design.

The main purpose of using this device is to create a uniform air exchange as a result of the distribution of the air flow.

The device can be used in various premises: both residential and non-residential.

It should be installed when there is a need to create comfortable conditions in a closed room that has ventilation, if it is necessary to change the air supply scheme, reduce the heat load, remove dust with a hood, which has been a terrible allergen in recent years, must be preserved air travel speed and maintain temperature unevenness.

The volume of incoming and outgoing air withusing exhaust diffuser can be adjusted.

Classification

diffusers for ventilation
diffusers for ventilation

Diffusers for ventilation are classified as follows:

  • by purpose - supply, exhaust and overflow;
  • on the impact on air masses - displacing and mixing;
  • for installation - for external and internal installation.

In turn, the latter are divided into wall, floor and ceiling.

According to the material, diffusers can be made of plastic or metal. Metal devices are coated with paint on top and are more expensive than their plastic counterparts.

The main differences between products by purpose are in the angle of inclination of the blades. Basically, products are used in supply ventilation systems, less often in exhaust systems.

The following diffusers are distinguished by the design of the holes:

  • Slotted - a rectangular frame with narrow and long holes. The slats can be directed straight, perpendicular to the frame, in which case the air will flow from the diffuser in a straight stream, or at an angle - the air enters in the direction in relation to which the slats are open. Some models have slat adjustment, which can be carried out for all of them at once or for each separately.
  • Nozzle - air is supplied in a continuous stream, as a rule, it is operated in large areas with high ceilings. For some models, the direction and inclination of the nozzle are adjustable.
  • Dish-shaped is a roundframe with a circle fixed near it. The gap between the circle and the frame allows air to flow along the ceiling.
  • Vortex - has blades like a fan, which allows you to effectively mix the air.
  • Fan is a complex of diffusers combined into one.

Thus, many types of diffusers stand out. The hoods in question are usually of the plate type and are designed to be mounted in the kitchen or in the bathroom.

The diffuser is round, square and rectangular according to the shape of the housing.

Slit views

The slot diffuser is a device that is mainly used for supplying fresh air, but can also be used for extracting exhaust air from rooms. Installed by aesthetes who want good air quality.

This unit can be a ceiling diffuser or wall mounted. Ceiling height is limited to 4 m in order to ensure optimal air distribution. At the same time, the lower limit of the installation of these devices is limited to 2.6 m.

The body of such a diffuser, usually aluminum, has 1-6 slots. Inside there is a cylindrical roller, with the help of which the direction of the air flow is carried out. Many models have a plenum for airflow management.

The height of the gap can be 8-25 mm, the length is from 2 cm to 3m.

Ceiling diffusers

Ceiling diffusers are also supply and exhaust. As already noted, slotted views may be related to ceiling. Such devices are also characterized by the presence of a static pressure chamber. As exhaust, round diffusers are mainly used, having a size of 10-60 cm. They can be installed in a suspended, stretch ceiling or cut into a drywall panel. In case of false ceiling installation, additional rings must be used.

Low velocity cones

These devices contribute to the displacement of exhaust air from the room. In this case, clean air is supplied to the serviced space, the air flow rate is low, and the temperature differences between the room and the inflowing air are minimal. Thus, these devices can be classified as supply and exhaust.

These devices can be wall-mounted, built-in and floor-standing. The last two types of diffusers are installed in steps and flights of stairs. Such devices can be used in museums, sports facilities, concert halls, cinemas, shops.

These diffusers are made of metal, which is covered with powder paint. In addition, anodized aluminum can be used. In the body there is a supply pipe, there are inner and outer shells. Shells may also be present, with the help of which the air flow directions are regulated.

Installation options

Installation of an exhaust diffuser can be carried out in a corrugation (metal sleeve), a wall hole (the so-called ductless ventilation), or in a box (hard sleeve).

Let's take a closer look at these options.

  1. Installation in the corrugation. The end of the corrugation is removed from the channel, to which a diffuser for ventilation is attached. The corrugated diffuser is carefully moved back into the channel, while you need to feel whether the product is in free movement or has reached the stop. If the latter is reached, the product must be pressed gently enough to hear a click. This indicates that the latches are in place.
  2. Installation in ductless ventilation. A hole is made in the wall, which should be the size of the exhaust diffuser plus 5-10 mm for a margin. Next, we take a pipe that matches in size with the size of the exhaust diffuser. If the pipe is larger than the wall thickness, it must be cut to these dimensions. We insert the cut part into the hole prepared in the wall and foam it. It turns out a nest into which the diffuser is inserted.
  3. Mounting in a hard channel. Here it is necessary to choose an exhaust diffuser that matches the size of the duct. After that, the device is inserted into the box. Insertion occurs until a characteristic click is heard.

Recommendations for installation

  • The fastening element should be selected based on the shape of the diffuser, as well as the design of the element where the installation will be carried out.
  • This element is mounted at the construction stage according to the project plan.
  • On the surface of the planned installation we make a mark about the fastening.
  • When installing in a stretch ceiling or cutting into drywall, mark the place where the frame and ceiling are attached.
  • In order to determine the space that the structure will occupy, we carry out markings on the wall.
  • The grinder makes a lowering in the wall with a gap of about 5 mm.
  • Insert the diffuser body and mark the attachment points.
  • Puncher or drill drill the desired holes.
  • We process the joints with sealant and make fasteners.
  • We fix the nozzle with bolts and self-tapping screws.
  • Remove the front panel to adjust the air distribution parameters.
  • Connect the micronometer and measuring nipple.

This completes the installation. The device requires personal care during operation, it must be washed with warm water and detergents.

In conclusion

Thus, extract and supply diffusers stand out. The latter are more common. Extractors are mainly used to neutralize unpleasant odors. Supply and exhaust diffusers are also widely used, mainly in non-residential premises. Installation of diffusers is not difficult and can be done independently.
