Waterproofing the foundation is one of the most important jobs in construction, because it is because of it that the building will have good protection against moisture. The importance of waterproofing increases many times over if the building has a basement or basement.
Waterproofing foundations is a rather responsible job that requires some knowledge and skills. However, doing it yourself is quite realistic. The main condition for waterproofing is to follow all the rules of such a process, since it is quite difficult to repair waterproofing.
If the foundation is stone or brick, then moisture insulation is laid at a height of about 20 cm above the ground. Foundation waterproofing can be done in several ways. All the methods that will be described below are the most proven and common in construction.
So, the first way. First, a layer of cement mortar is laid, the thickness of which is about 3 cm, prepared in a ratio of 1: 2. Next, a layer of roofing material is laid. Several layers of hot mastic are laid on top of the roofing material, with a total thickness of up to 10 mm. Further in several layersbirch bark is glued using pine resin, and at the end two layers of roofing material and two layers of bituminous mastic are alternately applied.
The next way to waterproof a strip foundation is vertical waterproofing. This method is used if waterproofing is necessary to protect against the ingress of water from the surface of the earth. In this case, the foundation is wrapped with bitumen-based waterproofing material around its entire perimeter. If the foundation needs to be protected from capillary liquid, then a layer of insulating material is laid at the point of contact between brickwork and concrete.
The next way to waterproof foundations is horizontal, which can be done in different ways. If the soil on which the building is being built is not wet, then to protect the foundation from moisture, it will be enough to coat it with bituminous material. And if the soil is quite wet, then in this case, with the help of liquid mastic, the entire foundation is pasted with waterproofing material. With this method of waterproofing, you need to ensure that the entire surface of the foundation is sufficiently even.
To make the waterproofing of foundations more reliable, a layer of crushed stone is poured before laying, which is pre-impregnated with bitumen. Instead of bitumen, you can use liquid glass, which does not need further updating, however, its cost is much higher.
A modern way to protect the foundation from moisture, rain, melting snow and the like is penetrating waterproofing. In this case, the surface of the foundation is treated with special materials at temperatures above 5 degrees. Such a waterproofing material penetrates deeply into the pores of the foundation and crystallizes there. Thus, there will be no cracks and pores in the foundation through which moisture can penetrate.
