After installation, some parts of cabinet furniture may have a slight slope in relation to each other. To prevent loosening of the case during operation, as well as to firmly fix the structure to form a single ensemble, the parts are fixed to each other with special fasteners - steel ties.
Design
Chrome-plated intersection tie is a detachable steel fastener made of a screw and nut in the form of a threaded cylinder. There is also a screw version with a plastic body that has a metal nut.
Each part is equipped with special slots. They are made for fastening using any tools - keys, eight-, hex bits, various screwdrivers.
Intersectional screed is used in fastening the walls of furniture based on chipboard, which are parallel to each other. Classic chipboard panels used to create furniture havethickness of 16 mm. The metal tie is long enough to connect the two walls. When fixing several chipboard panels, other types of fastening are used. The most common sizes of intersection ties are 8 and 6mm.
Pros and cons
Intersectional furniture coupler is the best way to fix chipboard material. Sometimes unscrupulous furniture assemblers use ordinary self-tapping screws for these purposes, which as a result contributes to product damage due to their pulling out under the weight of filled cabinets.
A high-quality material connection is created by screw parts. But there were some negative points: with increased tightening, when the top of the nut digs into the surface, there is a possibility of damage to the material.
In addition, it is required to prepare the screw holes. Sometimes they have a diameter that exceeds the size of the head, so a special washer is placed under the part. This method of installation negatively affects the external appearance of the internal elements of the case. A slight gap appears between the furniture sections due to the incomplete screwing in of the screw caused by the presence of washers.
Intersectional coupler: installation
To connect the sections, the fastened parallel or standing walls are fixed together with clamps. Holes with a diameter suitable for fasteners are drilled through at a distance of about 8-15 cm from any corner of the walls. An intersection screed is inserted into the hole, andfastener is twisted. Due to the relief under the top of the nut, there is no possibility of turning when tightening, but in some cases it is necessary to fix it with a screwdriver.
It is worth considering that the heads of the ties will stand out noticeably on the front side. You can now find masking overlays in stores, but they are presented in a rather narrow assortment, and it is not always possible to choose a decorative overlay for the required chipboard finish.
If the installation order of the sections declared by the manufacturer is not followed, there may be problems with fastening. This may not be the full opening of the cabinet doors, which will require tightening the hinges.
