When a modern person hears about painting the floor, he immediately has the thought that this is already a passed stage, but in fact it is a big delusion. The painted floor in the interior is an incredibly effective, popular and, most importantly, fashionable modern solution. You can paint not only a wooden floor, but also many other floor coverings, for example, linoleum, however, it is very important to initially properly prepare for this process, as well as prepare the material itself. As for the boards, with the right processing and approach, they can look perfect. It is also important to choose the right paint. The fact is that not everyone is suitable for such purposes. In such an easy way, you can change the look of the interior, add freshness to it without large financial costs.
Painted floor
This is a great budget repair option for those who want to change something without putting in a lot of effort. The advantage is that the modern market offers a huge number of variations of colors, different shades and textures. Therefore, you can choose any color, as well as a pattern, depending on your imagination. Can the floor be made plain oror classic in the form of a chessboard, draw a beautiful pattern: zigzags, rhombuses, circles. Or make a bright floor, although in this case there is always a risk that excessive flashiness will distract attention.
It should be noted that everything needs to be selected depending on the rest of the interior, furniture, its direction, style and appearance. This is the most important: more calm muted tones and ornaments go to the classics, for fusion you can choose an extraordinary pattern, as well as color.
In the 18th century, dyed floors were all the rage, followed by carpeting, but it's good to see them re-introducing.
I would like to say that many are accustomed to believing that painted floors are the privilege of only country houses or those made in a classic style. Actually this is a delusion. Such a floor covering is suitable for both the above buildings and a modern apartment created according to the classical canons. And even perfectly fit into the interior of a cafe or any other public institution. But it is important to prepare the floor well, because without doing it properly, the result will be of insufficient quality. Before painting, it is important to sand it well so that the surface is smooth. Therefore, it is better if a professional will do the work, or at least consult with him first and discuss all the issues of interest.
Pros
- Retains original appearance for a long time.
- If desired, can be easily replaced with another floor covering.
- You cancreate author's ornament and drawings.
- Dividing the room into zones, painting different parts with different colors, patterns (this will be most interesting for owners of small apartments).
Plain floors
Plain floors always look interesting and appropriate. You can paint the floor the same color as the walls. White is especially in fashion now, or white and beige are beautifully combined, basically it gives spaciousness and comfort. Although floors painted with white paint will suit everything, since this color goes well with everything, it is necessary to prepare the surface for painting very carefully, since all the bumps are especially visible on this color. And if you cover with only one layer, then you can meet with such a nuance: the paint will mix with the previous base and change its color. In this case, after everything dries, it should be covered with another layer. But you can experiment with other colors: scarlet, coral, citrus, in particular, such bright saturated colors look interesting in the bathroom or in the kitchen.
Patterned
The geometric pattern looks very interesting. You can create your own unique pattern. Or just decorate each board in different colors and combine everything with each other according to the scale. Or, to start with, you can play it safe and paint only a small area, making something like a small rug or path.
You can paint the floor in a solid color, and then inrandomly draw an ornament or pattern. Or select a few colors, and apply a drawing on top, it looks especially great in a nursery.
For small apartments, you can use the method of dividing zones, for example, the work area is painted in one color, for rest in another, or the entire floor is painted in one color, but a different pattern is applied to each zone.
Preparing to paint the wood floor
First of all, you need to take care of the gaps between the boards. If they are, they will interfere with the correct and even coloring of the floor, as well as spoil the entire appearance. In the case when the floor is uneven, this must be taken care of in advance. If the floor has already been painted, it is best to clean it, the best option is to scrape the painted wood floor.
One more thing. Only dry wood can be painted, and if this is not the case, it must be dried thoroughly. Next, apply the selected paint to a small area and see how it looks, how long it takes to dry and how well it works. Then you can get to work.
Another error may be that the floors creak. Of course, visually this will not affect the appearance in any way, but if you are already engaged in repair work, then you should work hard. Basically, it creaks due to dry air, the boards dry out, become smaller, so that there is a place between them. Therefore, when you step on them, the boards rub against each other and this unpleasant creaky sound occurs. In order to fixyou need to lubricate the cracks with talcum powder, it is best to do this with a rubber pear. But the whole procedure should be done very carefully. After all, if you drip from above, after washing the floors, white stains may remain.
So, when the wooden floor is ready, you can start painting. Of the tools you will need brushes and rollers. I would like to note that a roller with a long uneven pile can worsen the painting, the layers will lie unevenly.
How to dye?
The easiest way - the paint is applied with the first layer, then it dries for two days and the floor is painted again, after which, if there are still bumps or stains, you can cover it with another third layer, but only on condition that it has already passed more than three days since the last painting. It is important to remember that the paint should be applied in a neat thin layer, so that everything is evenly distributed. Otherwise, everything will look ugly, and a thick layer will peel off faster. After you need to wash off the non-absorbed drying oil. It is important not to use soapy water or baking soda.
Laminate painting
I would like to note that if this coating is worn out and has an unsightly appearance, it is still better to simply replace it, since in general the difference is not very significant in terms of effort and finances. But in this case, you can get a new flooring.
But if the decision is made to paint the laminate, then it also needs to be prepared for the procedure.
First of all, you need to remove all the furniture, sweep the floors, then thoroughlysand the laminate. In this case, the paint will be better fixed in the structure, and the coating will retain its original appearance longer. After you need to clean the floor from dirt, you can even wash it with a washing vacuum cleaner. Treat with a primer, and then, when it dries, you can paint. After the paint has dried, it should be varnished with a polyurethane or alkyd base.
Which paint to choose?
A very important point in the case of laminate flooring, oil-painted floors or those that are water-based are not suitable for this material. You can also use polyurethane paints and alkyd enamels.
As for the choice of paint for a wooden floor, it should be approached individually for each case. But the most high-quality and comfortable to use include polyurethane, acrylic and alkyd paints.
Care
The painted floor is completely picky. To maintain its original appearance, it is best to wipe it more often. After washing the floors, you need to wipe them dry so that there is no excessive moisture. You can put a couple of drops of alcohol in a bucket of water.
Ease of use
In addition to the fact that the painted floor looks much more aesthetically pleasing, it is also much more convenient to use. The coating protects the wood from mechanical damage, temperature changes and moisture.
Very easy to correct damaged areas, if you need to just touch it up a little. Or, if necessary, scraping painted floors will not take much time. Can be done with easereplace one coating with another.
