In 2015, the construction of a railway bypassing Ukraine began. The new section will connect the village of Zhuravka, located in the Voronezh region, with the small town of Millerovo near Rostov. Until now, the railway communication between these settlements partially passed through the territory of Ukraine. Those who needed to get from Voronezh to Krasnodar or, say, Rostov-on-Don, had to cross the state border twice.

The need to create a new canvas arose due to the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Kyiv. According to Oleg Tony, Vice-President of Russian Railways, the construction of a railway bypassing Ukraine is one of the main strategic projects for Russia at the moment, which should be implemented as soon as possible.

Scale of construction

The total length of the new section of the canvas will be 122 kilometers. The volume of state investments for the implementation of the project is more than 50 billion rubles. The construction of the railway bypassing Ukraine is carried out using the mostadvanced technologies and in strict accordance with the current Russian legislation. On the territory of the site there will be 5 electrical substations and about 60 kilometers of external access to provide energy - all this will allow fully electrifying the tracks.

The start of construction of the railway bypassing Ukraine took place with the help of 350 pieces of equipment provided by the Western, Central and Southern military districts and 600 citizens of the Russian Federation who are in military service.

The construction of the railway bypassing Ukraine was entrusted to the Roszheldstroy organization, which is a subsidiary of Russian Railways, and the railway troops of the Russian Federation. The responsibilities of the first group of workers include the creation of an external power supply system, the construction of traction substations, the installation of blocking and signaling devices, energy supply, laying sleepers and rails. The competence of the second group of specialists includes filling the subgrade and installing small artificial objects, such as culverts.

According to the assurances of the project managers, the progress of the work is being strictly monitored. Every day, specialists from mobile laboratories are sent to the site, and professional sappers are assigned to the battalions.

Construction of a railway bypassing Ukraine: features and problems

According to the project, some of the future tracks fall on private territory - sowingfields. According to Dmitry Bulgakov, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, they managed to reach an agreement with the owners of the property, and they will solve this problem in the very near future.

Most of the territory of the new railway track is located on fertile soil. Employees of the military departments carefully remove a layer of valuable soil and lay it away from the road section under construction. Upon completion of all work, the land is planned to be used for planting trees, shrubs and other green plants, that is, to create the beauty that Russia is so famous for.

Finish ahead of schedule

The implementation of the project is seriously ahead of schedule - military personnel report on the construction of about 150 meters of embankment per day. According to those in charge, while maintaining this pace, it will be possible to complete the work much earlier than planned - the end of 2017.

The Ministry of Transport notes that this section of the railway track would have been built in any case - regardless of relations with Ukraine. The need to implement the project was considered based on considerations of the comfort of movement of Russian citizens. With the emergence of an armed conflict in a neighboring state, it was necessary to ensure security, which only served as a catalyst for the decision to build a railway section between Zhuravka and Millerovo.
