In an effort to make their home even more cozy and unique, many people leaf through piles of catalogs with wallpaper samples, study various plastering techniques, and try to experiment with textures. At the same time, sooner or later, the thought begins to flash: why not try decorative patterns on the wall?

The thought gradually fits into the mind, settles down, and now you already catch yourself looking for interesting options. A study of other people's experience shows that most often people use stencils to apply patterns.

Templates do not require you to have artistic skills. Patterns on the walls in the apartment appear pretty quickly, and the process itself is a pleasure. Remember when you were a kid cutting out stencils from paper and coloring them?

Factory products are made from a polyethylene sheet on which cuts are made. The finished workpiece is securely mounted on the wall, pressed, and then a paint layer is applied using a spray gun, roller, sponge or brush. After that, the template is carefully removed. And voila! familiar roomnot to know.

But if you don't like other people's ideas, then many workshops will be happy to help you realize your original ideas. This will allow you to create really unique stencils to apply patterns on the wall.

And you can completely take matters into your own hands and make a stencil yourself. You will need a dense, better oilcloth material, but paper is also suitable, which is either impregnated with drying oil or pasted over with a waterproof film (scotch tape will do). The contours of the future drawing are applied to the material. If you are not too confident with a pencil, then print the blank on the printer. In conclusion, you need to work with a painting knife. They slowly cut through the ornament.

Patterns on the wall can be applied using traditional straight stencils, or you can use reverse patterns. What are they? These are sheet materials already familiar to us, but there are no cut out contours of the future decor on them. Instead, the sheets themselves are cut out in the shape of a given pattern. The workpiece is pressed against the surface, and paint is applied to the space around it.

There is another, very non-standard way to put patterns on the wall. But to use it, you have to get a projector. Remember that for small rooms this option is not suitable. The principle of decoration here is based on the transmission of the selected pattern to the surface using a projector. Previously, the sketch is transferred to a special acetate film with a thinfelt-tip pen, paying special attention to the contours of the picture. Next, the film hits the projector, which displays an enlarged image on the wall at the angle you need. Now you take a brush and stroke the drawing, only you do it not on paper, but on the wall. In the final, you will only have to “fill in” the drawing.

When choosing patterns for the wall, try to imagine the end result. Will the drawing annoy you in the future, will it “eat up” the space of the room, will it not be too flashy. In some cases, it is better to do with a small elegant ornament or a modest border.
