Many novice craftsmen who have only recently begun to deal with furniture are often interested in the question of what are the dimensions of a chipboard sheet - the most popular material for the production of all kinds of furniture. The same question often interests designers who design new, original products for household use.
Why is it so important to know the typical dimensions of a chipboard sheet
Any piece of cabinet furniture (wardrobe, table, bookshelf, bed, etc.) consists of a certain number of parts fastened together through various furniture connections. These details are obtained by cutting chipboard. The dimensions of the sheet and the direction of its surface structure largely determine how much material will be left, what the price of the future product will be, and how many sheets will need to be purchased from the supplier. Note that chipboard is afraid of moisture, and therefore it can be problematic to store it in warehouses. In addition, investing working capital in stocks from an economic point of viewvision is unfavorable. Therefore, in many furniture factories, the material in question is bought on order. Knowing what the dimensions of a chipboard sheet are, you can not only accurately calculate how much of the mentioned material is required for a particular product, but also make the best cutting, in which the remains will be minimized.
Chipboard sheet sizes: what are they?
The thickness of this material varies from 10mm to 38mm. The 16mm slab is the most popular. Chipboard with a thickness of 18 mm is used somewhat less frequently, usually this material is used to make better and more expensive furniture. From a thin plate (10 mm) wardrobe doors and frame facades are often made, and from a thick one (28 and 38 mm) countertops for kitchens and dining tables are usually made. As for the dimensions, the sheet length is as follows: 5500, 3660, 3500, 2750 and 2440 mm; width - 2440, 1830, 1750, 1500 and 1200 mm. Usually sellers indicate all the necessary parameters in their prices.
Choice of chipboard: sheet dimensions and price
In order to find out what dimensions of the slab will be the most optimal, it is convenient to use specialized cutting programs, for example, the 2D-Place application. First, the dimensions and number of parts are entered into it manually or by importing from a file. Then the dimensions of the chipboard, the thickness of the cut, the distance from the edges and other technical parameters are set. After that, the program, following one of the two algorithms, will automatically show howit is best to cut each sheet into parts, and how many such sheets will be needed to manufacture the desired product. The cost of chipboard depends, first of all, on the country of origin, the thickness of the material, as well as the presence and type of laminated coating. The price of a plate of the popular brand Swisspan (Ukraine) varies in the range of 240-400 rubles/m2. And a square meter of chipboard from the German company Egger will cost an average of 80-120 rubles more. Basically, the plate of this company is produced with a thickness of 18 mm and is somewhat better than Swisspan products in terms of workmanship. It is worth noting that non-laminated board (i.e., not having a color coating) is the cheapest. It is used only in internal, invisible places, as a rule, as a filler.
