Variety history

Rosa Flamentanz was bred in 1955 and immediatelygained great popularity among gardeners. They were ready to pay a lot of money for seedlings and even stole them from other people's plots. This boom continued for about 10 years. Then a hardy plant that reproduces and takes root well appeared in literally every garden, as a result of which interest in it decreased. But after some time, the second peak in the popularity of the Flamentan rose began, which continues to this day.

Benefits of Flamentan Rose

The reason for the increased demand was a number of advantages that the Flamentan rose has. Many gardeners are already familiar with the Nordic character of this plant. The rose bush tolerates winter well without shelter. It is enough just to bend the branches to the ground. This is one of the most winter-hardy varieties grown in our country.

Timely pruning and proper care allow the rose to grow in one place up to 20 years or more. She is not afraid of the diseases inherent in other varieties. It is one of the few flowers that has earned ADR certification, which is traditionally given to the most resistant plants grown without chemicals.

Landing

Planted in spring or autumn. The first step is to choose a suitable location. Flamentan climbing rose prefers well-lit areas protected from the wind. The soil needs to be dug to the depth of a shovel and holes sized 50x50 cm should be prepared at a distance of at least one meter from each other. They are carefully shed with water and laid on the bottom of the soil mixture, consisting ofmanure and clay (2, 5 and 5 kg respectively) with the addition of two tablets of phosphorobacterin.

At a climbing rose bush purchased for planting, the shoots and root system are pre-cut, leaving no more than 30 cm..

Before planting, seedlings are recommended to be kept in water, which will speed up their survival. Having placed the bush in the hole, it is carefully covered with earth and lightly tamped.

Growing conditions

There are no special features when growing such a flower as the Flamentan climbing rose - planting and caring for the plant is not much different from similar activities for other varieties.

The main thing that is required for this species is top dressing, watering and loosening the soil. Fertilizer in the form of humus or compost is enough to apply once a year at the rate of a bucket per bush. Be sure to feed with mullein at least once a season - fresh manure is diluted with water and insisted for two weeks (200 liters of water for 2 buckets of manure). Pour a bucket on each bush. Such top dressing significantly increases the intensity of flowering roses.

Loosening the soil in the near-stem circles of the plant is carried out every time a hard airtight crust is formed. Mulching is more effective - it retains moisture and attracts worms and other beneficial microorganisms. Watering is recommended once a week.

Annually, the Flamentan Climbing Rose needs pruning. This contributes to the formation of a more compact and dense bush. In addition, the removal of old, broken or frozen lashes leads to a rejuvenation of the plant.

Preparing for winter

After the pruning of weak shoots in September, the lashes of roses begin to bend down to the ground and gradually get used to this position. Two weeks later, they are treated with copper sulphate and tied into bundles of 3-4 pieces. When the first frosts come, the lashes are laid horizontally on a layer of dry foliage, sprinkled on top and covered with an additional film or roofing material.

With such care, the Flamentan climbing rose, the photo of which can be seen in this article, will decorate the garden with its lush color for many years.
