Astrameria flower belongs to Lilyflowers. In nature, it grows in the tropics and subtropics of South America (mostly in Brazil), reaching a height of eighty centimeters.
Twisted lanceolate leaves are a characteristic external feature that these flowers have. Astrameria (photo shows how bright the color of the petals) has an umbrella-shaped inflorescence. The latter resemble lilies or azaleas.
Astrameria: cultivation and care
These plants can be cultivated outdoors throughout the year only in those climatic zones where winters are very warm. Also, the astrameria flower can tolerate a slight freezing of the soil layer. Therefore, in regions with a not very cold climate, you can grow it by covering the rhizomes for the winter with mulch or straw, as well as arranging good drainage.
Astrameria flower prefers brightly lit places, without direct sunlight, and loose, moderately nutritious soil. Budding occurs at temperatures above sixteen degrees Celsius. Overheating of the soil will adversely affect the plant. Watering should be moderate, making sureso that waterlogging near the roots does not lead to decay. Flowering continues from early summer to mid-August. Some species are easy to propagate from seeds. But most are still seated by dividing the tubers. This must be done in the spring. And after transplantation, one should not expect rapid flowering from the plant. Seeds are sown in May in a mixture of deciduous and soddy land, after three weeks they begin to care for small seedlings. They will bloom only next year. Astrameria must be protected from pests and diseases. One of the most dangerous is flower thrips, it is eliminated with chlorpyrifos. The mealy worm, whitefly or scale insects are disposed of as follows: all leaves and shoots damaged by the pest are removed, sprayed with special preparations (adapted insecticides).
Astrameria flower in bouquets
This bright plant, which is also called the "Peruvian lily" with its exotic beauty is not inferior to orchids. In the flower market, it is very popular and is part of so many floristic compositions. In addition to beauty, it has another indisputable advantage - it stays cut for a long time (up to two weeks, subject to regular water changes), without requiring special care. "Peruvian lily" is used in flower symbolism. Its motley variety of buds with contrasting strokes, being included in a bouquet, means favor and friendly feelings. Astromeria can be presented to a purposeful girl, emphasizing her independence. In a bouquet, these flowers look good incompanies of primroses, orchids and roses. And just a combination of different shades of astromerias in a large armful makes an excellent impression. They are also used for wedding bouquets and for interior decoration. It must be remembered that the juice of this plant is toxic, and wash your hands thoroughly after contact with it.
