According to state laws, payment for energy resources must be made on the basis of quantitative data obtained from metering devices. Such a device is an electric meter. All electric meters have an intercalibration interval. The rules for the operation of electricity define the requirements for the accuracy class of the device used, which must not be lower than the established one. Directly, the accuracy class is characterized as the permissible error of the device in measurements and indications, determined as a percentage. The higher the accuracy class number, the lower the accuracy of the instrument.

One of these control devices is the SO-505 electric meter, the service life of which is determined by the manufacturer. The release of this model of the device is carried out by the Moscow plant of electrical measuring instruments of JSC "MZEP". The meter was considered the most popular and most efficient model used in the energy market for 30 years. If the device does not meet the requirements foraccuracy class or has expired, it must be replaced.
It should be noted that the CO-505 electric meter model has already been discontinued. An alternative could be an electrical appliance SOE-52 or similar that controls the energy consumption. This type of meters is ideal for apartment buildings and summer cottages.
Main parameters
The CO-505 device was designed as an electromechanical single-phase induction type apparatus for measuring incoming electricity. It is used in single-phase AC circuits with a rated frequency of 50 Hz and a standard mains voltage of 220 V. The CO-505 device is one of the few induction electricity meters that, thanks to a telemetry attachment, allow operation in automated systems. The connection of a single-phase meter must be carried out by specialists with permission and experience in this field. This meter has the ability to cope with more complex tasks that were previously performed only by electronic devices - remote data collection and multi-tariff accounting.
The active energy meter must be used indoors. The working environment temperature should be between -20℃ and +60℃. Relative humidity is determined to be no more than 90% at a design temperature of 30℃. The recommended pressure should be between 70 and 106.7 kPa. Meters are manufactured and produced in compliance with all norms of the State Standard and technical specifications.
Electric devices SO-505 haveversions corresponding to the base and maximum current. Such a gradation looks like from 5 A to 20/30 A or from 10 A to 40/60 A. The execution corresponds to the structure of the symbol printed on the display.
The calibration interval for the SO-505 device is 16 years.
Design features
This active electricity meter uses the induction method of operation. It lies in the fact that the voltage and current coils installed in the meter form magnetic fluxes. The flows intersect with the moving disk, creating transforming currents in it. The consequence of such actions is the activation of the disk, which begins rotational movements corresponding to the power consumed by the load. The spinning disc activates the drive gears, which in turn cause the counting mechanism to rotate. On the scale of the latter, the consumed electrical energy is visually observed.
The power coil is made of copper wire, which is designed to withstand the high operating current of the electricity meter. The voltage coil is mounted in parallel in the circuit and has a small cross-section conductor. This entire CO-505 electricity meter device is assembled and packaged in a transparent plastic case, which is made to be shockproof and fireproof.
Additional parameters
The device corresponds to the second class of accuracy. To prevent the possibility of theft of electrical energy, the meter is equipped with a locking mechanism. This device does not allow the disk to rotate in the reverse direction. Also, the illegal use of the internal device of the meter is opposed by a transparent shell through which you can visually observe violations and design changes.
The service life of the SO-505 electric meter, declared by the manufacturer, is 32 years. Ease of operation, low cost, long verification and serviceability period determined the high level of demand from the end user for the presented product.
The designation of the counting data is displayed on the front panel: the left side of the comma is kilowatt / hour, the right side is the tenth of kilowatt / hour, which is colored red. From the ingress of water and dust, the device has a degree of protection of the IP51 standard.
Pros and cons
Electricity meter SO-505 during development and over many years of operation has acquired a number of advantages:

According to the technical characteristics of the CO-505 electric meter, the limit level of the voltage range is from 176 V to 253 V. The frequency of the alternating voltage in the mains ranges from 47.5 to 52.5 Hz.
The maximum capacity of the voltage circuit in normal operation is 4.5 VA. The typical power consumption of the voltage circuit is 1.3 VA.
Maximum power in the current circuit does not exceed 0.5 VA at rated frequency and temperature.
Electricity meter SO-505 does not have a self-propelled in the absence of electric current and, accordingly, does not measure electricity, "winding" extra readings.
The minimum sensitivity of the device is 0.05 A.
Connecting an electricity meter
The order of inclusion is described in detail in the installation instructions for the device, which is included with the device. But connecting a single-phase meter is not particularly difficult. The device has 4 inputs for switching electrical wires. The incoming phase is connected to the first input on the left, the phase output to the consumer power grid is connected to the second one. The third terminal is connected to the zero wire of the input, to the fourth - the output.
