Kalina vulgaris is probably known to many - this unpretentious shrub grows almost everywhere, not only in forests, but also in gardens of villages, in summer cottages of townspeople and even in city alleys. They love viburnum in Russia for carved foliage - emerald in summer and purple-red in autumn - for snow-white flowering and for scarlet clusters of berries that adorn the bush from autumn to deep snow. Viburnum berries are very bitter, so they can only be eaten after cooking, which turns the berries into sweet and sour jelly, jam or compote.
But a relative of the common viburnum - viburnum Buldonezh - is still known to a few. This is a decorative form of a shrub, which in May-June is covered with snow-white balls of inflorescences, reaching a diameter of 12-15 cm. The flowers are odorless, they do not form berries. But for this abundant and long flowering (a month and a half), for the unusual shape of inflorescences in the form of a ball, viburnum Buldonezh has earned great love from landscape designers.
The name Buldonezh is translated from French as snow globes. It is a hardy shrub that can withstand pruning and crown shaping.on the trunk - low or high.
Kalina Buldonezh gratefully responds with lush flowering, if you choose a sunny place for it, protected from the cold wind, and place the roots of the plant in fertile light soil. Windswept lowlands and heavy clay soil this noble overseas mistress does not like.
If there is a reservoir on the site, then there is no better place for viburnum - it is very moisture-loving, and therefore it tolerates waterlogging much better than drought. A well-developed root system of the shrub allows it to be used to strengthen the slopes on the site. Viburnum Buldonezh reproduces best in spring - layering or cuttings, both lignified, with already loose leaves, and young green shoots. Cuttings are carried out in April-May, placing the petioles in a moist soil-sand mixture, covering them with a film and preventing the soil from drying out. Planted in a permanent place next spring.
The recommended distance between the bushes is 1.5-2 m, a pit is prepared with a size of 50x50x50 cm, in which a young plant is placed - viburnum Buldonezh. Shrubs are planted in autumn or spring.
In order to see abundant flowering every spring, which pleases and surprises viburnum Buldonezh (her photo is given as a decoration of this article), growing young shoots after flowering (end of July) must be cut off. To form a standard form of a shrub 1 m high, one of the most powerful is expelled in three years.the central shoot is the trunk of the future tree, the rest of the shoots are removed. Viburnum rejuvenation is carried out by cutting off all old branches at a height of 20 cm from ground level.
Viburnum prefers organic fertilizers, but do not forget about reasonable amounts of nutrients introduced. Bushes at the beginning of flowering may be attacked by aphids and leafworms, which disappear after the bushes are treated with Fitoverm or Aktelik.
Caring for viburnum Buldonezh is simple, and the beauty of flowering is amazing - no one will pass by indifferently. Grow this overseas plant in your garden and enjoy early summer snow globes!
