One of the most convenient building materials used for indoor work is gypsum board. GVL is used for wall cladding, protection and cladding of structural elements.
Gypsum fiber is similar to drywall, but has better performance characteristics. Thanks to its homogeneous structure, this material is more durable and reliable.
The difference between GVL and drywall
First of all, gypsum fiber has the best strength characteristics in comparison with drywall. Due to this property, GVL has a wider scope and is used in cases where the reliability and rigidity of the partition is required. In addition, the high viscosity of the material allows sawing the blade with virtually no waste, as well as screwing screws without dowels.
In addition, the homogeneous structure gives the material good wear resistance and increased resistance to mechanical damage. Therefore, GVL sheets are often used as a substrate for floors or dry screeds. This method of arrangement allows you to level the surface with high quality and without unnecessary dirt.gender. And the right size of GVL sheets will not only speed up work, but also significantly reduce material costs.
Disadvantages of gypsum fiber cloth
The increased rigidity of the material has its drawback: the manufacture of structures with curved shapes in this case is quite difficult. The bending strength of the GVL sheet is quite low even when wet, therefore, unlike drywall, the use of this building material in figured structures is limited.
The cost of GVL is also important. The price per sheet of gypsum fiber is slightly higher than that of drywall. However, this disadvantage is compensated by better performance and longer service life.
Advantages of gypsum fiber sheet over other finishing materials
Due to its composition, which does not contain synthetic components, GVL-cloth, like drywall, is an absolutely environmentally friendly material.
Gypsum fiber sheet has a high level of sound and heat insulation. And due to the hygroscopicity of the material in a room with a finish of GVL sheets, the humidity that is optimal for a person is always maintained.
Excellent fire-resistant properties allow the use of GVL as a protection for wood and other fire hazardous structures.
GVL-cloth can be easily sawn with a regular hacksaw or jigsaw. Therefore, from this building material, you can build a structure of almost any configuration.
Another advantage of GVL is the ease of transportation and installation of building materials. The relatively small weight of even dimensional sheets allows the installation of the canvas by one or two people. At the same time, the work is carried out in the shortest possible time without losing the quality of the finish.
Moisture resistant gypsum fiber sheet
Despite the fact that gypsum fiber is quite hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air well, today manufacturers of this building material produce a special waterproof look. Moisture-resistant gypsum-fiber sheets (GVLV) can be used in rooms with high humidity, such as in a bathroom or toilet.
This material is easy to identify even by appearance: as a rule, sheets have a greenish or grayish tint. For additional protection, it is often treated with various antiseptic and moisture-resistant agents.
Typical dimensions of GVL sheets
Regardless of the manufacturer, the size of GVL-sheets has standard values, which facilitates the installation and adjustment of plates for various types of structures. For greater convenience, all parameters are presented in the form of a table.
Dimension | Size in mm |
Thickness | 10; 12.5; fifteen; eighteen; 20 |
Width | 500; 1000; 1200 |
Length | 500; 2000; 2500; 2700; 3000 |
For private construction, small-format sheets 1500 x 1200 mm with a thickness of 10 or 12.5 mm are mainly used. This is the most convenient option forinstallation with limited resources. This size of GVL-sheets allows you to quickly and accurately align the walls, create internal partitions, niches and curtain walls, even alone.
Larger GVL fabrics are used for finishing large spaces and industrial premises. The size of GVL sheets of 2500 x 1200 mm and more involves the involvement of additional workers and is used as a building material by professional teams.
GVL application
Due to their good performance, GVL sheets in construction are used for wall cladding, construction of partitions and the creation of various structures, as well as dry floor screed:
- mainly gypsum fiber is used for decoration and construction in residential and industrial premises with normal and low humidity;
- if there is good ventilation, this building material can be used in basements and attics.
- for bathrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and other rooms with a high moisture content in the air, it is recommended to use a moisture-resistant GVL-cloth;
- excellent frost resistance allows the use of gypsum fiber for wall cladding of outbuildings - garages, sheds and other unheated buildings;
- to ensure fire protection of walls and structural elements, a gypsum-fiber sheet is also used; the use of this material is especially important if it is supposed to work with woodenbuildings, since in this case the application of adhesive solutions is not required.
Cost of GVL-sheets
Depending on the manufacturer of GVL, the price per sheet may vary slightly. Another factor affecting the cost is the region of sale and, of course, the size of the sheet. Estimated cost of standard plates (1500 x 1200 mm, 2500 x 1200 mm) varies between 390-600 rubles.
At the same time, a gypsum fiber sheet from a Russian manufacturer, as a rule, is somewhat cheaper. However, many professionals urge not to save on this material and purchase expensive, but at the same time, higher-quality imported GVL for construction.
