Installation of windows in a wooden house requires a system "casing" or "pigtail". Casing should be understood as a wooden box located between the window and the wall of the house, which is mounted before the window is installed.
Thus, casing is necessary because:
- its lower part plays the role of a window sill;
- no need to slant;
- platband can be fixed quickly and easily;
- gives additional insulation around the perimeter of the window.
Preparatory work
Before installing wooden windows with your own hands, you need to do some work, namely:
- Prepare the opening. If the height of the window block exceeds 1000 mm, then the width of the opening is cut 20 mm more than the width of the casing. Otherwise, this indicator is equal to 50 mm.
- Insert the end key. To do this, you need to cut a groove at the end of the log.
- Close up the gaps formed between the casing and the window opening. The process of assembling the casing is carried out using self-tapping screws. Further, using the level, the box is installed in the opening andfixed to the dowels and the lower log. The resulting lower and side gaps are sealed with sealant, and the upper space with mineral wool.
- Install a window block into the casing. In order to protect against weather conditions, a self-expanding vapor-permeable sealing tape is laid around the entire perimeter.
- Finishing work. At this stage, the installation of windows in a wooden house provides for sealing all the gaps that have arisen between the window block and the casing from the inside. For these purposes, you can use fillets. The resulting space between the walls of the wooden house and the casing is eliminated by installing the casing.
