The desire to make tuning your car sooner or later appears in every owner of an iron horse. You won't surprise anyone with stickers and neon ribbons. But painting the car with chameleon paint will help you stand out.

How paint works

Covering a car with chameleon paint allows you to create an iridescent effect. The color of the surface will change with the angle of view. A similar effect occurs due to the fact that the composition of the paint contains a special pigment (it is artificial), which makes the sun's rays break. The iridescent effect is due to the presence of several of these pigments in the chameleon paint. These particles are stacked in five levels:

  • aluminum, chrome form an opaque center layer;
  • transparent layer on each side of the main one;
  • outer translucent layers.

The simultaneous presence of these layers on the surface creates the so-called mirror effect. The overflow of color depends on the thickness of the coating, the larger it is, the more noticeable the chameleon effect will be.

Many people confuse this paint withmother-of-pearl effect. The last option involves adding particles of mica or similar pigments to the enamel.

How to make DIY chameleon paint?

As a rule, this paint is already sold ready-made. But if you have a strong desire, you can create a similar effect yourself. The principle is as follows:

  • First, the main color is applied (preferably white or black);
  • metallic paints are applied in layers;
  • between each layer of paint you need to apply a special transparent varnish.

In this case, one must take into account the fact that the thickness of the metal oxide coating affects which color (yellow, red, blue) will be further suppressed or reflected. Due to this, the human eye from different angles will capture different shades of the spectrum of reflected sunlight.

Paint technology

You can apply chameleon paint to the surface of the car yourself. The whole process consists of three steps:

  • Applying a primer (toner). It is best to use a white or black substrate for this purpose. This will achieve the maximum chameleon effect. The color of the substrate will be the main one, and the applied pigment will break it.
  • Coating directly with chameleon car paint. To do this, you need to provide the right lighting (it is better to combine the work of halogen and fluorescent lamps) and a temperature of 20 ° C. The first layer must be applied with a sprayer at a distance of 40-50 cm from the surface to be treated, whilepaint should be supplied with a pressure of 4 atm. The first layer dries no more than 3 minutes. Now you need to remove the dust with an antistatic cloth. After that, you need to apply a second layer. The next two (there may be more) are applied from a distance of 30 cm and under a pressure of 3 atm. They take 5 minutes to dry each.

  • Fixing the color with clear varnish (preferably in several layers). You can apply it after the paint has completely dried.

Covering the car with chameleon paint, it is impossible to go unnoticed. There are no rules for surface care. In addition, with a little experience, you can repaint your car in a garage.
