For decorating and finishing ceilings in residential and non-residential premises, various types of materials and technologies are used. Not all of them can be used in areas with high humidity, such as bathrooms or kitchens. First of all, this applies to wallpaper. If you don't have the opportunity to make suspended or stretch ceilings in these rooms, you can use more economical, but beautiful finishes, such as ceiling tiles.

Ceiling tiles are made of polystyrene. This material has a number of advantages:

  1. environmentally friendly, absolutely harmless to human he alth;
  2. Waterproof: the tile can be used indoors with high humidity;
  3. insulating properties: polystyrene is an additional sound, moisture and heat insulation;
  4. a range of textures and colors allows you to realize almost any design idea;
  5. availability: the price of the tile allows it to be used even on a large area.

Depending on the manufacturing method, there are three types of ceiling tiles:

  1. Extruded.
  2. Injection.
  3. Compressed (stamped).

Extruded tiles

Extruded tiles are made from polystyrene tape. Its surface is absolutely smooth, which makes it easier to care for such a surface, it can be snow-white, colored or imitate natural materials, such as stone, wood or fabric. Extruded tiles always have edging, so they are divided into squares on the ceiling. The diversity of the range allows you to balance the different collections of this flooring, which makes it unique in every home.

Injection tiles

Injection tiles have a porous structure. Thanks to a special production technology, it turns out to be extremely strong and resistant to mechanical damage. There are no embossed drops and patterns on its surface, therefore, when properly laid, seamless ceiling tiles form a continuous canvas, which is to be painted later.

Stamped tiles

Stamped tiles are among the cheapest type of coating: this is due to the inexpensive type of production, a small assortment of patterns and insufficient strength of the material. Therefore, its operation requires utmost care and caution, both during gluing and in further care. Despite these disadvantages, stamped ceiling tiles are quite in demand among consumers. With the right design approach (selection and configuration of different reliefs or unusual painting)it can also be given enough originality and originality.

Glue ceiling tiles

Installation of ceiling tiles does not require special skills, just read the instructions and strictly adhere to them. No special surface preparation is required either: it is enough to clean the ceiling and level it a little with plaster. If the base is plywood or chipboard, then the surface must be primed. The big advantage of such a decorative coating is that it lies on almost any surface (the main thing is that it is fat-free, clean and dry), hiding a lot of defects.

If you use the same type, for example, stamped or injection, tiles, then start gluing from any place convenient for you, for example, from the wall. If extruded tiles with a pattern are used, then it is necessary to start gluing from the composition center. To determine it, pull two ropes obliquely from corner to corner through the center of the room: the intersection will be the center.

Adhesive for ceiling tiles

Choosing a ceiling tile adhesive is easy enough. The modern building materials market offers a wide range of this mixture. The main principle is that the basis of the glue is aqua base, so the residue can be easily removed with a damp cloth. Applying adhesive to a tile is usually shown on the instructions, usually a dotted line across the tile and a solid line around the entire perimeter of the tile.

With proper gluing and operation, the ceiling tile will last a long time, delighting you with the originaldesign and originality.
