For compaction of soil during construction or road works in landscaping, a rammer is used. Compaction occurs due to the fall of the working platform, which can have a different shape (rectangle, circle or square). Depending on the design, the rammer can be of several types.
-
Assemblies with free fall of the slab, which is lifted by means of a cam or rack drive or a rope mechanism. This is the lowest performing group: the frequency of dropping the load is about 10 strokes/min.
- Explosive Rammer is powered by burning fuel.
- Auto-tamping units work by means of a cam or crank mechanism that returns the load to its original position.
- Pneumatic rammer uses compressed air to lift the slab. The maximum drop rate is about 1000 strokes/min.
According to the impact energy, these mechanisms are divided into three groups.
- Heavy have an impact energy of 1000 to 5000 kg/m (50,000 J).
- Medium – hit100 to 1000 kg/m (1000-10,000 J).
- The lungs act on the ground with a force of 80-100 kg/m (up to 1000 J).
Heavy rammer is usually tractor-mounted, the weight of the working platform can be up to 3 tons, and the height from which it falls is up to 2.5 meters. The impact frequency of this type of mechanism is low.
Machines of the middle class are made on the basis of self-propelled chassis or in the form of trailed tractor equipment. There are self-propelled options in this group. Lightweight rammers are light in weight and manually operated. The most common model in this group is gasoline. Small dimensions and ease of operation allow them to be used in places inaccessible to other devices.
There are two types of rammers according to the method of transferring energy to the ground: with or without a chabot. Chabot - a metal plate laid on the ground, which falls on the impact of the working surface. Shaft machines have low efficiency, besides, there is a possibility of plate breakage, because such machines usually have low power.
Asph alt paving, soil compaction in construction or landscaping, paving slab laying and many other jobs are areas where a rammer can be used. The price depends on the power of the unit, type of engine, version and manufacturer. The price spread is significant even in the light class: the cheapest manual unit can be purchased for $600-700, the most expensive representative of this type of machine costs $13,000-15,000.
It is worth thinking about purchasing a “rammer” if the unit is supposed to be used continuously, but if the use is episodic, then you can use the rental services of construction equipment. There are organizations that offer tamper rental for a fee. First find out the class and capacity of the necessary equipment, prepare the site for work and start looking for the necessary equipment. The cost of rental of construction equipment is calculated based on the time for which the unit is provided to you and its cost.
