The domestic chemical industry produces various types of adhesive solutions. Most of them have a fairly wide scope. Universal glue 88 is very popular among consumers. Due to its positive properties, it provides a reliable connection even of incompatible materials. What is Adhesive 88? You can find out its purpose and technical characteristics by reading this article.
Composition and purpose
Glue 88 is a solution of a mixture of rubber, ethyl acetate, nephros and phenol-formaldehyde resin. The liquid has a viscous uniform consistency of a gray-green or beige hue. Precipitation is allowed.
This agent is intended for bonding:
• rubber;
• metal;
• wood;
• polymeric and synthetic materials;
• glass and ceramics;
• natural and artificial leather;• cardboard.
Specifications
Glue 88 has many positive qualities. Among them:
• temperature resistance;
• vibration resistance;
•water resistance;
• the ability to provide instant fast setting. The seam of the glued products is plastic, not afraid of vibration, withstands temperatures from -30 to +90ºС. In addition, it is moisture resistant to fresh and s alt water. The glue is non-toxic. It firmly and reliably connects incompatible materials in various combinations.
Most popular species
There are several varieties of this item. Each type has its own characteristics and designation. Among the most commonly used markings are the following:
1. Glue 88 SA - designed for bonding fibrous and porous materials, as well as rubber and metal. The consumption per m2 is 300 g.
2. 88 NP - used for gluing rubber with concrete, plastic, metal, wood and leather. Possesses the increased qualities of moisture resistance. Used in automotive and residential construction.
3. 88 M - used in the repair of cars, motorcycles. Its characteristics exceed the above modifications. Perfectly connects rubber with plastic, metal, concrete and other materials. For more details on the use of each type of adhesive, see the instructions attached to the product.
Application of glue
Glue 88, whose technical characteristics are quite high, can be used in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, aviation, the shoe industry, and everyday life. In construction, it is used in gluing linoleum to a wooden or concrete base, repairing damaged tiles. As a primerdeep penetration glue 88 is also used. The characteristics of this product - versatility, reliability, ease of use - give it an advantage over other adhesives.
Before use, it is recommended to mix the glue well. In case of thickening, it must be diluted with ethyl acetate. There are cold and hot bonding methods.
1. With the cold method, two layers of adhesive composition are applied to the previously cleaned and degreased materials to be glued with a brush, each is dried for about 15–20 minutes. After that, the surfaces should be pressed together as tightly as possible for several minutes and left at a temperature of +18º C for a day for complete setting.
2. The hot bonding method involves applying the product to the material to be bonded. The layer of adhesive mixture should be dried for 20–25 minutes. The materials are then heated to 90°C, bonded and left undisturbed for at least 3 hours. Because 88 Adhesive contains highly flammable solvents, it should be kept away from fire. All work related to it must be carried out in ventilated areas and away from open flames.
Packing and storage
They produce glue 88 packaged in the following containers:
• 40 ml tubes;
• 100, 200 and 400 ml plastic bottles;
• metal cans 0, 65 and 2, 3 kg;
• barrels of 40 kg. The product is stored at a positive temperature of 10-25°C in a tightly closed container, in a special room, away from heating devices. Should not be placed inplaces accessible to children. The shelf life of the adhesive is 12 months.
