Those who have a house in the country or in the village know firsthand that it is better to protect window openings from uninvited guests. Shutters can serve as an alternative to the metal bars that are commonly used for this purpose. They not only do not spoil the appearance of the house, but also decorate it.
What is important to know?
When choosing products, you need to be able to distinguish between wooden shutters by some factors:
- Method for easy opening.
- Rack or shield type.
- Mount type.
- Type of wood.
How can they open?
According to the method of opening wooden shutters are divided into fixed and hinged. Stationary fastened tightly to the window frame in one version, and in the other - to the wall of the opening. In both cases, after installation, there is no way to open them. As a safe option, fixed shutters are very reliable, but in terms of installing and removing them every time you need them, this option is inconvenient.
Swinging wooden shutters on the windows are sashes. They may be fromone to several. It all depends on the width of the window opening and on the chosen configuration. "Undershirts" are mounted in the opening on the hinge system, which is specially made for convenient opening and closing of the shutters.
If we consider both options, stationary and swing wooden shutters as a reliable means of protecting windows, then they have the same reliability, but swing shutters are more multifunctional. One of the functions is protection from direct sunlight on hot days. It will not be difficult to close them and lock them up at any time.
Buyers in most cases choose the swing option. Usually it is made of two wings. The stationary option is chosen in case of a long absence. For example, many owners leave for the city for the entire winter period, closing their dacha or house especially carefully.
Types and materials
Modern manufacturers produce hinged shutters for wooden windows (photo above) of the following types:
- Sash.
- Arched.
- "Accordion".
Choosing the right option, made in the same style as the whole house as a whole, is not difficult for current buyers. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account the material from which the product is made:
- Larch.
- Oak.
- Pine.
- Other.
Do not forget to ask the sellers what kind of antibacterial compounds the wooden shutters are treated with: will the wood succumbdecay and damage by harmful insects. You should also check the mounting materials: the hinges will not be damaged by anti-corrosion grease.
There are two ways of fastening:
- To the slopes of window openings.
- On special remote elements that are mounted on the outside.
- Walls.
Shield and slatted
Shield shutters are a sheet of wide strips, which are made thick and connected with metal pins. The rack design is more complex. This is a frame with slats (lamellas) fixed on it. To make the appearance original, they offer designs with slats at an angle. In this case, the sun's rays penetrate even when the shutters are closed.
