Recently, an increasing number of our compatriots are trying to decorate their own houses in the old style. Particularly popular are architectural elements characteristic of styles such as Gothic, Baroque, Empire and Classicism. After reading today's article, you will find out what concrete balusters are.
The benefits of these designs
These are small architectural columns used to decorate buildings. It is these elements that give the interior a complete aristocratic look and emphasize the excellent taste of the owner of the house. It should be noted that concrete balusters perform several functions at once.
They have long ceased to be just a protective element. Modern designers successfully use them to update the architecture. The popularity of these designs is due to the fact that they are endowed with a number of important advantages. The main advantages of concrete balusters include environmental safety, water resistance, long service life.operation and frost resistance. Products made from this material are favorably distinguished by increased strength and affordable price. No less important is the fact that a well-polished glossy surface is almost as aesthetic as natural marble.
Molds for the production of structures
To make concrete balusters, a special disc is first cast. It is important that its diameter is five centimeters larger than the section of the plaster model. After that, it is glued to the end of the workpiece and marks on it the points for the fractional pieces, from which the mold shell will form. Subsequently, the holes necessary for assembly are drilled in these places.
The resulting structure is divided in half and the first row is sequentially assembled, not forgetting to treat each part with a release agent. Gypsum mortar is carefully poured between the model and the formed board. After it hardens, they begin to disassemble the structure and trim the edges. On the upper part, holes are drilled for pieces of the second row. All elements are varnished and the structure is reassembled, building a side for the next sector. Still once again smeared and poured with gypsum mortar. Sectors made in this way are fastened together.
Casting
The peculiarity of this process is the use of an almost dry solution. For its preparation, sand, cement and aggregate are needed. All these components are combined in the right proportions, evenly poured with water and mixed well. Solution readinesscan be checked by squeezing it in your hand. If after opening the palm it does not fall apart, then it is suitable for further use.
The solution obtained in this way is gradually poured into the prepared form and carefully rammed. It is important to ensure that the layer thickness is from five to ten centimeters. Gradually, the form is filled to the very brim. After a little time, carefully remove the casing and wait until the concrete balusters are completely dry. After about two days, you can begin installation.
Installing balusters
For the installation of these elements, special metal inserts must be provided in the lower and upper parts of the mold. In some cases, thin reinforcement is used for these purposes, which passes through the entire rack. When mounting a balustrade on metal steps, this tab is simply welded to the march.
It should be noted that this staircase design is much more reliable and durable than those, during installation of which the balusters are mounted on dowels or anchors.
