Antique furniture belongs to the most difficult category, for its restoration one cannot do without aesthetic taste and experience in using special materials. It's not just that antique items are so loved by people who know the price of high-quality and beautiful things. Restoration of antique furniture takes quite a long time, as it is manual painstaking work on a product that is a real work of art. A wooden furniture restoration master carefully examines all the smallest details of an item and, in accordance with the actions of those who made it, chooses the best method of repair.
Lamination
Is the most common type of restoration and is based on removing the worn coating from the surface and applying a special varnish composition. The interior item is disassembled in parts, with the exception of the glued elements and the base. Paint, existing dirt and varnish are removed by sanding. Where its use is not possible (carved or uneven parts), the coating is washed. After that, broken structural elements are repaired and scratches and chips are eliminated. If the furniture is severely damaged, additional reinforcement is required, only then assembly can begin. The final step is to apply varnish.
Decoupage
Such restoration of wooden furniture in the form of application is carried out without expensive materials and actions requiring special skills. Three-layer household napkins are often used for patterns and drawings.
The surface is carefully cleaned with sandpaper, after which acrylic type paint is applied in 1-2 layers.
The necessary patterns are cut out of the napkins and the top layer is separated, which will be used for application. A drawing is applied to the surface of the furniture and carefully covered with glue. It can be a special glue or ordinary PVA. The diluted composition is applied with a brush, then the plane is ironed to remove existing bubbles and creases. After final drying, decoupage varnish is spread on top, used as a protective layer.
Restorationhand-painted wooden furniture
Old interior items are also decorated with acrylic compositions and varnish, due to which they acquire an updated interesting look. Painting can be done in two ways: using stencils and ornaments, or manually.
Coloring
Before the restoration of wooden furniture begins, a film is placed under it to protect the floor. If there are overhead elements, handles and other parts, they must be removed. If we are talking about a closet, then drawers and shelves are removed from it, handles and mirrors are removed, after which it is placed on bars so that its lower part does not come into contact with the floor.
The surface is carefully cleaned with medium to fine grit sandpaper. Dust is removed and turpentine is applied. Next, the item is covered with a special primer, which has an oil-based composition. It must be selected in accordance with the intended paint: the primer should be two tones lighter. In its absence, you can use a water-based coloring composition. Application is carried out from above with a gradual distribution on the sides and down. After the material has dried, it is processed with sandpaper. The resulting surface is wiped with turpentine applied to a soft cloth.
To form a flat plane without the slightest flaws, shellac is distributed on the primer, previously diluted with a solvent in a ratio of 1:1. Further processing with paper and turpentine is repeated.
Before applicationpaints can be diluted to a liquid consistency for a more thorough distribution. After it dries, the surface is cleaned and covered with the desired composition.
Repair and restoration of wooden furniture
Homemade or ready-made putty is used to treat loose wood fibers, cracks and minor damage. The composition is distributed in such a way that the defects are completely filled, while there is a small protrusion above the surface, which will equalize when dried. Next, the repaired area is polished. With self-production of the composition, it may turn out to be too light, this problem is solved by adding powder pigment. Particular care in the selection of shades is required for wooden objects that have a transparent lacquer coating.
