In most cases, the owners of country houses install light metal barbecues on their plots. Such designs are inexpensive, but at the same time they are not particularly durable. Therefore, a much more correct solution would still be to build a more solid heavy brick barbecue on the site.
How to choose a seat
Before you start building such a structure, of course, you should decide on a place for it. Brick braziers look pretty attractive. Often they even serve as the center of the composition of the landscape design of the courtyard of a country house. That is, they install brick barbecues in most cases in a conspicuous place.
Of course, such a structure should be placed, among other things, in such a way that it would be convenient to use it later. It is best if the brazier is located closer to the house. In this case, the owners of the site in the future will not have problems with the delivery of water and food to it.
However, to place the barbecue, of course,still stands on the leeward side of the house. Otherwise, in the future, smoke from this structure may begin to enter through the windows into the living quarters.
Of course, the brazier should be erected away from all sorts of green spaces. The smoke from the chimney of such a structure comes out quite hot. Therefore, the branches of fruit trees located next to it can be burned.
You should not place a barbecue next to cesspools, compost heaps or, for example, animal sheds. Eating a kebab cooked in such a place will most likely not be very pleasant in the future.
Shape and dimensions
Brick braziers are erected using schemes of a special variety - orders. It is easy to find such drawings. The shape of the brazier may be different. In suburban areas, such structures are being erected with and without chimneys, with conventional fireboxes and arched ones, complemented by countertops and cauldrons, etc. You can also, for example, build a brick barbecue stove in the courtyard of a private house.
When choosing the order of this type of structure that is suitable in this particular case, one should be guided primarily by the features of the landscape design of the yard and take into account their own financial capabilities.
Ordering-drawings of brick braziers can be different. On a suburban area, you can build both a small and a large structure of this type. But it is still considered that the length of the brazier should not exceed one meter. The width of such a design is usually 47-62 cm. It is this lengthhave standard skewers. Most often, home-made barbecues are laid out 2 bricks wide. The length of such structures in most cases is 4 bricks.
They usually build such structures in such a way that the brazier is not too high. The most convenient are those braziers in which this part of the structure is at the height of the wrist of the site owner.
What materials will be required
Having a good order, it will be possible to build a simple and very convenient brick brazier with your own hands. Instructions for the construction of such structures are not particularly difficult. In any case, it will be much easier to build a brazier than the same heating and cooking stove. However, to build such a structure, of course, you will need to choose the right materials.
The construction of brick braziers according to order drawings is usually very inexpensive. Chamotte brick, for example, is not used in the construction of such structures. The walls of the braziers do not heat up too much during operation. Therefore, you can lay them out, including the brazier, from ordinary, inexpensive, full-bodied ceramic bricks of standard sizes.
Mortar for laying barbecues also use ordinary cement. In its preparation, lime is additionally used as a plasticizer. Knead the solutions intended for the construction of barbecues, in proportion by volume:
- cement - 1 part;
- sand - 3 parts;
- lime - 4 parts.
In addition to bricks and cement, for the construction of a brazier on a suburban area you will need:
- rebar for foundation;
- water proofer;
- boards or OSB boards for formwork;
- metal sheet.
Building the foundation
The weight of brick barbecues is significant. Therefore, such structures are erected exclusively on the foundation. The base of the brazier is poured using the following technology:
- at the site chosen for construction, markings are made using pegs and a cord;
- digging a not too deep pit;
- pour sand into the bottom of the pit and ram it with water from a hose;
- install the formwork under the foundation;
- on bars about 5 cm thick, a reinforcing cage is installed;
- pouring the foundation slab.
The mortar for the base of the brazier is usually prepared in the proportion of cement / sand / gravel as 1/3/4. The reinforcement for the foundation of such a structure is connected using a wire from a 8 mm rod. You can also use a pre-made grid. But such a product should be laid in the thickness of the foundation slab in at least two layers.
Plinth laying
You can start building your own brick barbecue with your own hands on a base filled in this way no earlier than a month later. The foundation concrete must be strong enough to bear the weight.designs.
Before proceeding with the construction of the brazier, its base should be laid with roofing material. On top of the waterproofing layer, you need to lay out one row of masonry with solid bricks.
The brazier is erected according to the chosen order. The basement of such a structure can be closed or open. In the first case, the brick is laid out on three sides of the barbecue. In the second, only two extreme supporting walls are erected.
More convenient are, of course, closed plinths of barbecues. In such structures, under the brazier, it is convenient to store, for example, coal, dishes or food.
Brick brazier: step-by-step instructions for laying a brazier
Laying the plinth of the brazier and all other parts of its construction is, of course, with dressing of the seams. Also be sure to do the stitching. The brazier brazier can be laid out using different technologies. Its bottom is sometimes a thick sheet of metal, sometimes a concrete slab.
In the latter case, between the walls of the plinth of the brazier in width, a U-shaped formwork (on "legs") from the OSB sheet is first installed in width. Further, with reinforcement, the slab itself is poured. As a support for the metal sheet of the firebox, steel corners are usually embedded in the masonry.
The front wall of the brazier is most often laid out 2 bricks high. When laying this part of the structure, vertical seams are sometimes not filled with mortar. Through the cracks formed in the brazier during the preparation of the barbecue, the air necessary for smoldering coals will subsequently flow.
Chimney installation
This part of the barbecue structure can, of course, be assembled from bricks. However, for a person who does not have much experience as a bricklayer, such an operation may seem somewhat complicated. Indeed, unlike stoves, barbecue chimneys usually have a shape tapering upwards. And laying them - the procedure is actually quite complicated.
Therefore, tin chimneys are usually installed on do-it-yourself brick barbecues. If desired, such a design can be purchased and a ready-made factory one. But it’s better to make a tin chimney for the barbecue with your own hands.
This design is usually made as follows:
- weld the frame of the dome of the chimney from metal corners;
- sheathe him with tin;
- weld the rectangular frame of the pipe itself;
- sheathe the pipe with tin;
- attach the dome to the barbecue using self-tapping screws;
- put the pipe on the dome and fasten it with rivets.
Useful extras
Very often erected according to the order-drawings with their own hands, brick braziers are complemented with countertops. This can actually be very convenient. In this case, the assembly work of the structure is performed as follows:
- fill the foundation longer than in the first case;
- erect a plinth with an intermediate partition assembly;
- in the topmost row of the plinth, the bricks are laid across the walls;
- onthe resulting ledges on one side of the plinth lay the bottom of the brazier, and on the other - the countertop;
- continue to erect the brazier, according to the chosen order.
Brick braziers with a cauldron are erected in approximately the same way with their own hands. In this case, not a solid tabletop is placed on the base, but with a hole, into which a metal cauldron is subsequently inserted.
How to plaster
Usually, brick barbecues are not finished in any way. However, in order to extend the life of such a structure, it can, of course, be plastered. As a finishing mixture in this case, it is best to use an adhesive designed for mounting aerated concrete blocks with crushed brick added to it. Using such plaster, you can give the walls of the brazier an original look and at the same time reliably protect them from the negative effects of street moisture.
Barbecue shed
A brick structure of this type can serve for a long time. However, a variety of natural factors can negatively affect the masonry during the operation of the brazier. To prevent this structure from collapsing ahead of time, it is imperative to build a canopy over it.
The simplest protective structures over barbecues are erected approximately according to the following technology:
- dig holes for the supporting pillars of the future canopy;
- install the supports themselves (two of which should be longer than the other two) with concreting;
- tie supportstop bar;
- connect in pairs long supports with short ones using rafters;
- mount the crate;
- sheathe the canopy with a profiled sheet or metal tiles.
The chimney of the barbecue in the end, of course, should be higher than the roof of the structure assembled in this way.
The easiest way over the barbecue, of course, is to build a canopy. But you can place a brick barbecue in the gazebo. In this case, the canopy will simply need to be supplemented with a parapet and plank floors. In the gazebo with a barbecue, of course, in the future it is worth installing a table and benches, as well as cabinets designed to store dishes.
Reviews about brick barbecues
The construction of such a structure is, therefore, a simple matter. When erecting a brazier, it is important to simply try to make the masonry as even as possible, using a level and a plumb line. In this case, the finished structure will turn out to be neat and will become a real decoration of the site.
Reviews of brick barbecues from summer residents deserve simply excellent. Structures of this type, according to the owners of suburban areas, serve much longer than metal ones. In addition, brick braziers just keep heat perfectly. And consequently, the kebab cooked on them turns out to be very juicy and tasty.
The owners of suburban areas also refer to the advantages of barbecues of this variety that they can be turned into a barbecue at any time. To do this, you just need to replace the skewer with a grill. many hostscountry houses when building a brazier, they also provide mounts for the grill.
If, however, a gazebo is built around such a structure, then, according to many site owners, it can turn into a real family hearth, next to which it will be very pleasant to spend time and meet guests.
