For those who do not like trivial wall decoration options, a new generation of decorative coating has appeared that allows you to realize the most original design and decoration ideas. These are gypsum wall panels with volume effect. They are presented in many different options both in form and texture, are easy to install and are able to transform the spatial perception of any interior.
3D gypsum panels - what is it?
As folk wisdom correctly noted, everything new is a well-forgotten old. 3D gypsum panels "descended" from ancient Egyptian relief plates used for decoration. The current level of development of technologies and production of materials allows you to create unusually interesting, voluminous and complex images on surfaces that imitate almost any texture.
How are they used?
3D technologies have conquered not only the film industry, butrather quickly “stepped over” this framework and entered our everyday life and interior. In the interior, gypsum 3D panels can perform both purely practical and aesthetic roles. Thanks to the ease of installation, the variety of textures, shapes and patterns, it became possible to transform the interior in the shortest possible time in accordance with your desires and preferences.
In addition, such panels can be used to create partitions and zoning rooms, decorate individual sections of walls, radiators and mask small surface defects.
Volumetric gypsum panels can completely cover wall surfaces or, placed on any area, draw attention to it and accentuate it.
Gypsum properties
This is a natural material obtained by grinding and roasting gypsum stone mined in quarries, which are quite numerous in Russia. Gypsum is often used to make panels, as it has the following properties:
- environmentally friendly;
- does not attract dust;
- does not absorb odors;
- off;
- non-toxic;
- easy care.
How are they made?
When manufacturing volumetric panels, the following steps are performed:
- Development of 3D relief. Designers do this by creating sketches and building computer models.
- The composition is mixed from building gypsum, water and special additives that reduce its fragility and increase plasticity.
- In shapecreated on the basis of a computer model, pour the composition of the required consistency.
- After the mixture is completely dry, the 3D gypsum panels are removed and finished with paint, varnish or other materials.
Dignity of gypsum boards
In addition to all the advantages that the panels received from gypsum, there are also other positive qualities of this finishing material:
- Easy and simple to install.
- Light weight.
- The humidity level is adjusted. Gypsum panels absorb excess moisture from the environment, and if the room becomes dry, then give it away.
- Excellent heat and sound insulation performance.
- Easy maintenance.
- No seams when done properly.
- Variety of exterior design allows you to choose the most suitable panels in terms of texture and pattern, corresponding to the style of the interior.
- Possibility of coloring in any color or original backlight.
- Facilitation of electrical work, so the wiring is fixed without gating behind the panels.
Like any other finishing material, gypsum 3D wall panels have some drawbacks.
Cons
Panels made of gypsum can only be used in dry and moderately damp rooms. They can absorb condensation and moisture, which means they are highly hygroscopic, so rooms with high and constant humidity levels are not suitable for them.
In some cases, their rather large weight becomes a negative factor.
In addition, gypsum wall panels do not withstand strong impacts and increased mechanical stress. That is why they are not recommended for use in children's rooms, for which plastic ones are more suitable.
To fix such panels on the wall, glue is considered the best way to fix them. However, it requires very careful and high quality basic wall finishing. Gypsum 3D wall panels are difficult to fix on the frame due to their fragility.
Types of gypsum panels
Panels, stucco, imitation of artificial stone or fabric - in this form you can find gypsum panels in stores. In shape, in most cases, they are square or round, less common are round and oval, which are mounted at a certain interval. Standard gypsum panels are available in the following popular sizes: from 200 x 200 mm to 600 x 900 mm, with a thickness of 1.8 to 3.6 cm.
Manufacturers accompany their products with instructions that indicate the number of elements required to obtain a solid image. In some cases, the composition is built on one volumetric slab, which creates a repeating motif. Between themselves, the plates can be connected in various ways, forming an original pattern. You can not make a continuous decorative wall covering, but arrange the panels diagonally, in various stripes or groups.
When buying gypsum volumetric slabs, you need to knowlaying area. This is important because such finishing can be performed on walls not exceeding 10 m in length and with a total quadrature of not more than 40 m2. If the specified parameters are exceeded, it will be necessary to arrange seams that will compensate for temperature changes in the base.
