A wide range of building materials both facilitated and at the same time complicated the choice of a modern person. For example, many of us have not even heard such a word as MDF. Not everyone knows what it is, and it can be difficult to decipher. In fact, under this abbreviation is a medium-density fibreboard.
Where does it apply?
To begin with, it is worth saying that the material owes its appearance to modern advanced technologies, on the basis of which fiberboards were made. There are no synthetic binders in MDF; instead, lignin is used, which is already contained in the composition of the wood. And this suggests that such material as MDF is environmentally friendly and safe for human he alth, that this is such a unique coating that can be used to veneer walls and other surfaces. During the production process, the material becomes:
- resistant to burning and temperature changes;
- durable;
- waterproof.
It is also important that MDF is produced on high-tech equipment, so its surface can be easily processed. ExceptIn addition, it is possible to release material in any form, even the most unusual. Staining, laminating, varnishing or enameling - MDF can be subjected to all these operations. What is it and what are the distinguishing features of the material, we figured it out.
Wall cladding
Finishing an apartment or a country house with MDF panels for walls is not uncommon for a long time. Such popularity is explained by the fact that the material is easy to install, and therefore you can even install it yourself. A huge selection of color and texture solutions will allow you to choose a design for any style of interior design. The panels are mounted directly to the guides, which are attached to the wall in advance.
Before installing the profiles, the walls should be treated with special compounds - this will protect them from the effects of fungus, microorganisms and moisture. The profiles should be tightly adjacent to each other so that there are no gaps between them. To make the resulting array look aesthetically pleasing and organic, you need to use various corners and decorative strips that are fastened with brackets or glue. Do not forget about the ventilation between the wall and the panels.
How is MDF made?
The production of the material is carried out in several stages. First, raw materials are harvested (most often it is ordinary wood). The logs are cleaned of bark, chopped into small chips, a mass is obtained that needs to be rid of debris, sand and subjected to steaming. After steaming, the chips are crushed intobinder resins are added. The mass is sent to the dryer, after which air is removed from it. Already on the forming machine, wood fiber (the so-called fiber) is obtained. With the help of a forming machine, the mass is compressed into a carpet, under the influence of a press, the remaining air is squeezed out of it.
The most important stage of production is MDF pressing. What it is? This is a process in which the wood fiber carpet undergoes a final pressing, after which it is cut and cooled. To give an aesthetic appearance, the resulting panels are subjected to grinding, the thickness of the sheets is leveled, and defects are removed. To get MDF boards, you need to use technological chips, urea-formaldehyde resin, ammonium chloride and paraffin. The material can only be stored in packaged form and in a room where the humidity level is not higher than 70%, and the temperature is a maximum of 25 ° C.
