Screeding is a dirty and difficult job, but it is an essential part of leveling the floor. But thanks to such a novelty as an adjustable support for a log, you can get rid of the laborious screed process. This method does not require much physical effort. Many breathed a sigh of relief as soon as such supports were born.
Features
The support, adjustable for the log, is laid on a rough surface, and the slopes are set using small bars or chips. Next, the floor boards are laid on top and screwed. Thanks to this device system, it became possible to level any surface, even if it has a huge slope or there are bumps. The lags and the base are stacked in such a way that a space appears between them that can be used to install any communications. Usually the height varies from 4 to 19 centimeters.
This installation system has its advantages, namely:
1) The space is being ventilated.
2) It becomes possible to stackinsulation (due to height).
3) The light weight of the structure, which distinguishes it from all other types.
4) Lightweight construction (you can use any ideas, high threshold, small podium).
5) Direct installation technology itself (ensures long operation due to ventilation).
The adjustable surface can be made up of a variety of materials. Regardless of which one you choose, the construction will remain solid, and this gives confidence in its operation. Commonly used materials are:
- particle board;
- beams (50x50 or 100x100 mm);
- plywood.
Adjustable joist supports are mounted on studs that are fixed to the base of the floor. What kind of base will be, concrete or otherwise, it does not matter at all, since the whole structure is quite resistant to any load. To increase the durability of the floor, all its components must be treated with an antiseptic and thoroughly dried.
Mounting system
The whole structure is fixed on the bases, which are adjustable supports for the log. It is not so difficult to fix all the details with your own hands, since they have an external thread and easily fall into place. Internal fastening is provided by a stud, which is screwed into the concrete base and attached to the support. But it is worth noting that if not concrete is used, but wood, then nails and dowels are replaced with wood screws.
From the above, it becomes clear that the only useful tool for installing the floor is a drill or screwdriver. For especially strong ones, of course, a screwdriver. If you want to raise the floor a couple of centimeters, then you can eliminate the logs and just use plywood or a slab. But even in such a situation, it is necessary to replace the dowels with plastic, which will later be fixed into the bushings. If you want to raise the floor by more than 5-6 centimeters, then you will have to use standard metal dowels on which the logs will be installed. And flooring will be laid on top of them.
Adjustable support (for log) using metal studs
To do this DIY installation, you will need:
1) hairpins;
2) anchors;
3) nuts;
4) washers.
All of the above components must match each other's size. That is, if the studs are M8, then all other materials should be the same. Also, for installation, you will need wood screws, since they act as fasteners when installing the top deck. The studs should be at least a couple of centimeters above the ground.
Work sequence
The first step is to make holes in the joists based on the depth of the nut. The calculation is made according to the diameter of the washer, and a couple of millimeters are added to it. If you use size M8, then these sizes are ideal for you:
1) Depth should be 10mm.
2) Diameter - 26 mm.
In order to firmlyinsert the stud, you need to drill a hole 1 millimeter smaller. This will give strength to the fastener. Then you need to drill the subfloor according to the diameter of the previously prepared stud. The distance between fasteners should not be equal to or greater than 40 centimeters. The lag is applied to the floor, and points are marked for creating holes, after which the anchors are hammered.
To assemble a hairpin, no special effort or knowledge is needed. To do this, put on the washer and tighten the nut. These components act as a limiter for the stud. Why screw another nut and put on a washer. All washers are well tightened, after which the floor is installed.
In conclusion, we can say that the adjustable support (for lag) is one of the most wonderful inventions of mankind.
