Disorder in the kitchen is a problem familiar to many. Very often, cooking in such an environment turns into real torture, as it takes forever to look for a ladle, a cutting board or a knife. In addition, today many use expensive ceramic knives, which can become unusable after being dropped or in contact with other objects. But some of these problems can be solved quite simply. To do this, you just need to figure out how to make a knife holder, and make this useful tool.
Materials
In the past, knife stands were usually made of wood. However, today other materials are used for this along with it. For example, lately many have been interested in how convenient a knife holder filled with polypropylene is. Also popular are home-made options from bamboo sticks or various bulk materials, poured into transparent plastic vessels.
Simple standfor knives
This kitchen gadget will only take you a couple of minutes to make. To do this, you will need several packs of bamboo sticks. If you are too lazy or you don’t know how to make wooden boxes, then just take some transparent plastic vessel in the shape of a cylinder or parallelepiped. Next, you should cut the sticks so that they peek out of the vessel by no more than 1-2 mm. You can also paint them in different colors. Then you just have to put the sticks into the vessel, and the stand will be ready.
If you are not afraid of carpentry work, then it will not be difficult for you to make a parallelepiped of 4 boards the length of a bamboo stick and one square board.
Stand with filler
Recently, "store" options similar to the previous one have been very popular. For example, many buyers have already appreciated the benefits of polypropylene knife holders, in which bamboo sticks are replaced with fibers from this material.
As a rule, plain plastic vessels are used in such products. You can revive them using the decoupage technique, using napkins with a large pattern.
It is easy to make such kitchen appliances on your own with other fillers. For example, in a high transparent flask with a diameter of 15 cm, legumes and cereals (lentils of different colors, rice, small beans, etc.) can be covered in layers. In this case, you get a stand that will also serve as a kitchen element.decor.
Knife stand with your own hands from slats
This is a very simple kitchen tool that anyone with a saw and nailing skill can make.
You will need 81 square rails. They should be 1-2cm longer than the longest kitchen knife you have in the house and 1.5cm wide.
This wooden knife holder is made as follows:
- take a square board 16x16 cm;
- using a ruler, draw lines on it with a pencil in the horizontal and vertical direction (the first one - stepping back from the edge by 7.5 cm, and the rest - in increments of 1.8 cm);
- mark the intersection points with a marker;
- lubricate one end of the rail with wood glue;
- nail it to the board in the marked places (you can use screws after drilling shallow holes in the right places, but then you will have to glue rubber legs to the base of the product from the outside, otherwise it will not be stable);
- when all the rails are nailed, take a thin bar less than 1 cm thick and 16 cm long and stick it on the stand so that you get a "belt";
- paint the base or varnish it on the outside.
If you know how to burn wood, you can pre-apply some pattern on the stand.
Another wooden option
To make such a stand for relatively short knives, you will need a base board 1 cm thicker than the widththe blade of your biggest knife. You can choose its height yourself, but it cannot exceed 20 cm. As for the width, if you need to place six knives, it should be 30 cm.
The stand is made in the following order:
- the board is cut into bars with an indent of 3 cm at an angle of about 35-40 degrees according to the number of knives, starting from the upper right corner;
- all details are carefully polished;
- take a board 2-3 cm thick, 3 times wider than the bars and longer than the base by the length of the knife in cm;
- draw a straight line in the center;
- stick a trapezoidal piece of the base and bars with an indent of 1 cm;
- a wooden plank 2 cm wide is glued onto the base on both sides;
- fixed with screws along the edges;
- varnish the stand or paint it some dark color.
Original stand: materials and tools
An interesting option in the form of a warrior with a shield can be made by those who know how to cut figures out of plywood using a jigsaw. It is especially easy to make such a functional decoration for the kitchen if you have the opportunity to work on a special CNC machine that works according to a given program.
You will need:
- sheets of plywood size (70 x 29 x 1.5 cm, 46 x 34 x 1.5 cm, 35 x 34 x 1.5 cm, 26 x 34 x 1.5 cm);
- round magnet with a diameter of 2, 5, and a thickness of 5 cm;
- 8-10 6mm chopsticks;
- clear varnish;
- furniture glue;
- end mill;
- sandpaper;
- corner cutter.
Working order
Knife stand in the form of a warrior is made in the following order:
- cut out all the details from plywood in double quantity, since then they should be glued in pairs using chopsticks;
- main parts are fastened with glue and spikes;
- a magnet is built into the helmet of a soldier, on which a device for sharpening knives will be attached;
- coated the whole piece with woodwork varnish.
Option with magnets
Such a primitive do-it-yourself knife holder can be made in just a couple of minutes. To do this, large quantities of small flat magnets are fixed on the logs processed with sandpaper and varnished with saw cut. Hang it on the wall and just "glue" the knives.
Now you know how a universal knife holder can be made and you can clean up your kitchen.
