Bathroom. Today, its purpose and practicality are largely rethought. We want beauty and comfort even in this secluded corner of an apartment or house. Particularly attractive and beckoning are the numerous bathroom design projects that are shown in large numbers on television and on the Internet. However, not so long ago, the issue of bathroom layout was not so relevant. Many had to be content with what the developer provided for them.
In the fifties, in the so-called Stalinist buildings, bathrooms were designed with an area of no more than ten squares. Since there were not too many material goods and achievements, this area was quite enough. The "Khrushchevs" that replaced the "Stalin" were characterized by a combined bathroom, the area of which was limited to three squares. Most of the room was occupied by a bulky tub made of cast iron. And there were no such concepts as "shower stall" or "shower tray" at all.
Today, the problems of a small area remain, as most of the population still lives in old houses. However, there are many more options for improving the functionality of bathrooms. The question of choice remains difficult. Which do you prefer: a bath or a shower? Consider the pros and cons to prioritize.
Bath: advantages and disadvantages
The modern market offers a wide range of bathtubs made of various materials: metal, acrylic, cast iron, plastic. They differ in size, color and shape, which allows them to be installed in any area. In addition, a wide variety of furniture is always available, so that all the necessary little things and accessories can be placed in one room. This bathroom looks aesthetically pleasing and beautiful.
The question of love for the bath is very individual and depends on personal preferences. She fits:
- for those who like to bask in warm water in the evening, relaxing and immersing themselves in it with their whole body;
- for families with small children who bathe in the shower, even if the shower tray is deep, uncomfortable;
- Those who use the bathtub by installing shower accessories without the need for a shower tray.
At the same time, there are also disadvantages. First of all, these are:
- high water consumption and, as a result, more expensive utilities;
- high sides of the bath, which are often impossible to overcome without help for the elderly or the disabled;
- it takes more time to take a bath (if there is none, it is easier to install a shower tray and use the showerbooth);
- despite the variety of shapes, the bath still takes up a lot of space that could be used for a washing machine or an additional locker.
It is worth saying a few words about showers, highlighting their advantages and identifying disadvantages.
Showers: advantages and disadvantages
Showers are increasingly becoming an alternative to the traditional bath. Nevertheless, there is always a certain amount of doubt: is it worth changing the usual bathtub, used for many years, for a shower stall.
Let's define the advantages of modern options for showers:
- The shower stall is available as a complete set, which allows you to equip your bathroom with all the necessary elements in one fell swoop.
- There are many models of showers that differ in functionality and design.
- Water consumption when bathing in the shower is much less.
- The shower tray is usually replaceable, small in size, which generally saves space in the room.
The disadvantages include the fact that it is inconvenient to bathe small children in such a device. In many showers, the shower tray is made of steel, and every drop of water that falls on it echoes resoundingly throughout the apartment.
