As you know, war is a harsh, cruel time when the end justifies any means. For the sake of saving their own lives and the lives of their relatives left at home, the soldiers are ready for anything. The enemy cannot be pitied - is he capable of pity?
Defenders always fought especially desperately, defending a besieged city or village, which is not surprising, because behind them were defenseless women, children and the elderly. In order to save them, ditches were dug, ramparts were poured from earth and stones, barriers were strengthened - but all was in vain.
During the First World War, everything changed, as the Frenchman Giordano Bruno - not a philosopher, not a warrior - managed to invent a new means of defense against the enemy.
This tool was a spiral in the form of a cylinder, the diameter of which could reach a meter and a length of twenty-five meters. She was made of barbed wire - from several of its threads - and the integrity of the structure was ensured by extension supports. In honor of its "parent", this invention was called the "Bruno Spiral".
The role of this innovation in the war could not be overestimated. It turned out to be an extremely effective defense against enemy infantry, and the movement of the cavalry was significantlywas difficult. Since the spiral was based on barbed wire, and not ordinary, it was impossible to climb over it, and the large diameter of the structure made it very difficult to damage it. Therefore, the enemy could not sneak up unnoticed.
Bruno's spiral helped its installers to destroy the enemy - because in order to overcome it, the infantryman had to make several cuts - and he could only do this while standing - it was not difficult for the defenders of the fence to "remove" it with a bullet mark.
This invention was most effective when using machine guns - while the enemy was trying to overcome an obstacle, he was shot on the spot. Another tactic proved to be a little worse: passages were left in the barrier, which were guarded by soldiers who killed everyone who tried to pass.
During the war, Bruno's spiral had two applications - the detention and subsequent destruction of the enemy in battle and the protection of peaceful settlements. In both cases, its huge advantage was not only the efficiency and difficulty of overcoming, but also the speed of installation. This spiral was always ready, stored and transported in a folded (folded) form, and, if necessary, stretched with wire and stakes. In addition, its manufacture was also possible in the field - for this, only barbed wire and stick templates were needed.
Shortly after the war, the manufacturing technology of this invention was adopted by other countries, and now the Bruno spiral can be foundin many places - including Russia. It is used to block objects that require special protection. This type of barbed wire is most often seen around prisons, secret and military installations.
In addition, anyone can buy Bruno's spiral for enclosing their own plot or garage from potential gates. Its cost is not too high, and installation is simple and everyone can do it.
