When building a cottage or a country house, an exploitable flat roof can be chosen. In this case, you need to apply a special technology. Roofing in operation must be resistant to all kinds of impacts, and this is only possible when all layers of the so-called "roofing cake" are precisely made.
There are two types of such a roof:
- traditional;
- inversion.
Traditional roofing
The device of the operated roof in the traditional way. As you move away from the floor slab, there will be a slope-forming layer that serves to drain water from the roof. Its slope angle is from 0.5 to 3°. Operated traditional roof contains several layers. The direction of water drainage must be specified by the documentation. Arranges a slope-forming layer below the waterproofing. The waterproofing layer does not allow water to enter the house. It can be made of PVC membranes, bituminous or polymeric insulating materials. A layer of thermal insulation keeps the heat in the house. It must be properly selected, otherwise it will get wet and collapse. It is usually protected by waterproofing.
In the case of the inverse version, everything is done the other way around. Thermal insulation is laid above the waterproofing. This is the main difference between these roofings - the direct contact of the insulation with water. The inverted operated roof is completed with heaters with low water absorption rates, for example, foamed glass. In addition, there is also a drainage layer that removes water from the structure. It consists of cavities through which water that has got inside is removed. It also has built-in filter elements that prevent the cavities from silting up. Geotextiles are often used as drainage.
Inverse option
If the operated roof is inverted, then the same layers are located, counting from the floor slab as follows: slope-forming layer, waterproofing, thermal insulation, drainage, protective and filtering layer. The main advantages of the inversion option are the following: long service life of waterproofing, the ability to quickly redo the roof, thermal insulation evenly distributes the load over its entire area. Disadvantages: it is impossible to use cotton insulation materials, the use of expensive material as drainage.
Traditional operated roofing has the following advantage: it is possible to use cheap non-combustible cotton wool insulation materials. In general, any heat-insulating material can be used as thermal insulation. Disadvantages: heavy construction, short service life.
Uses
It mightbe:
- variant with green and pedestrian zones;
- roof-parking;
- roof terrace;
- green roof.
The terrace version is different in that the materials of the top layer can be different. For example, if ceramic tiles are laid, then a cement-sand mortar should be placed under it. Another view is green roofing. Instead of a top cover, it has fertile land on which various plants, even shrubs and trees, can grow. It happens that they arrange parking for cars on the roof, especially if there is no place for cars on the ground. It is arranged according to the type of roof-terrace. A roof option with greenery and walking areas is possible for all types of roofs in use.
