Brick is one of the most sought-after materials, because without it it is impossible to build 99% of structures. To fully satisfy the needs of the construction market, several types of brick products are produced, designed to solve different problems. One of them is a backing brick. How does it differ from similar products of other types, for what purposes is it intended and what are its features? More on that later.

Refill brick is a red ceramic stone with various appearance flaws. These are:

  • heterogeneity of texture and color;
  • oblique edges;
  • roughness;
  • chips.

Because of this, the material is not used for the construction of external walls, or, if it is used, it is subjected to subsequent finishing, decoration, sheathing. But an unattractive appearance is not a particular flaw - thanks to this drawback, the cost of backing-type products is much cheaper, which very often serves as a decisive factor when choosing building materials.

Two availabletypes of backing ceramic stone, each of which has its own characteristics.

Hollow

Brick solid
Brick solid

Emptiness inside products can take up to 40-46% of the volume of products. Hollow ceramics, due to their low bearing strength, are not used for the construction of load-bearing structures. But it is indispensable in the case when the construction of private houses and other low-rise structures is carried out. Hollow ceramics are used for the construction of partitions, walls. Each piece weighs between 3 and 4 kg.

Advantages of ceramic hollow stone:

  1. High thermal insulation performance.
  2. The ability to significantly reduce the load on the base.
  3. Slight moisture absorption.

Full-bodied

Voids in full-bodied products occupy no more than 13% of the volume. Because of this, solid brick has a high thermal conductivity, so buildings made from it need additional thermal insulation.

Although full-bodied ceramics weigh more than hollow ceramics, it is superior in strength, therefore it is used in the construction of load-bearing elements, foundations, plinths and other types of similar structures.

A solid brick has the following characteristics:

  1. High frost resistance.
  2. Excellent compressive strength.
  3. The ability to withstand any load.

Manufactured products have different shapes and textures. Besides,backing bricks are available in various colors - this indicator has no effect on the strength of the product and depends on what shade of clay was used in the manufacture.

The material has excellent characteristics that distinguish it from similar products of other types. These are:

  1. Ecological cleanliness - products are made from natural materials without the addition of harmful or toxic components.
  2. Excellent density.
  3. Long-term preservation of appearance, regardless of any weather conditions.
  4. Excellent weather resistance.

Although the appearance of this type of brick products is far from ideal, it does not matter at all, since the material is designed to create a solid base, which is subsequently lined. Moreover, the presence of a relief pattern allows for excellent adhesion of the surface of products to concrete, as a result of which the masonry is of high quality and reliable.

The backfill brick is used very widely for all types of external work, including construction:

  1. Columns.
  2. Code.
  3. Foundations.
  4. Bearing walls.

Product marking

To be able to choose the right backing brick during the construction of buildings of different heights, the products are marked. The designation informs about the pressure indicator per 1 sq. m, which can withstand the erected walls. For example, the M100 marking says: for each square meter there should be no more than 100 kg of load.

Several brands of ceramic backing stone are available:

  1. M100. The most affordable material, therefore, it is most often used in the construction of private cottages and houses.
  2. M125. Designed for the construction of cottages and low buildings. It surpasses the similar material M100 in terms of reliability and strength indicators.
  3. M150. The most sought after product, which also has high strength.

In other words, the more floors you need to build, the larger the brand of ceramic backing stone should be.

According to GOST No. 530-2007, the size of the backing brick is as follows:

  1. Double products - 25 x 12 x 14 cm.
  2. One and a half - 25 x 12 x 8.8 cm.
  3. Single - 25 x 12 x 6.5 cm.

The price of a backing brick depends on several characteristics - size, brand, type. For example (price is per piece):

  1. Hollow one and a half products cost about 9.5 rubles.
  2. The price of full-bodied products M125 is about 7.3 rubles.
  3. The price of a single brick M100 is about 5.5 rubles
