The main decoration of any personal plot is a beautiful and neatly arranged flower garden, in which all kinds of ornamental plants are planted. And you can do it yourself, without spending a lot of time and effort on it. As an example of such an original decor, one can cite such an element as a brick flower bed. You can build it with your own hands without difficulty, and the result will delight even experienced summer residents. This flower garden is distinguished by its original appearance and ease of execution.
If desired, you can build a flower bed with both open and closed base. The first option is much easier to make, however, when building it, it is worth considering the specifics of the growth and development of the plants that you plan to plant there. Some species can only be grown in tall open beds.
Flower beds frombricks can be round, oval, rectangular or square. Moreover, a square design is considered easier for construction. The construction of a round flower bed requires some brickwork skills. Once you have decided on the shape, size and appearance of the flower garden, you can start building it.
DIY brick flowerbed: main stages of work
First, you should dig a foundation pit for the future structure. Its depth should be no more than 50 centimeters. Then the bottom of the pit must be laid out with a layer of clay and expanded clay (about 5 centimeters) - this is necessary for soil drainage. If there is high humidity on your site, you need to take care of the waterproofing of the structure under construction in advance. It is best to use roofing felt or a special film for these purposes, which is lined with the bottom of artificial reservoirs.
Now you can start building walls. A do-it-yourself brick flower bed can have a very different design. However, the dimensions are considered optimal: six rows of bricks in height and eight in length. If the flower garden does not involve additional cladding with decorative stone, then it is better to use a whole (without chips and cracks) brick for the construction of the structure. The first few rows should be laid without mortar. This is done so that excess moisture from your flower bed is removed naturally. During construction work, do not forget to check the verticality and horizontality of the walls from time to time. This is done using a spirit level. It is important to remember that a flower bed frombricks, erected with their own hands, should have even and smooth walls. However, for better ground retention, they should be slightly tilted inwards.
After a few days, when the brickwork is completely dry, you can fill the flower garden with soil and plant any plants in it. No less popular among modern gardeners is another interesting version of garden decor - the original plastic flower bed. Making it with your own hands from bottles is as easy as shelling pears, but we'll talk about this some other time next time.
