Buying an apartment is a special event for every person, regardless of age and social status. And if you saved on the price of the apartment, then the repair will have to be done unambiguously. If you bought an apartment, as they say, with an improved configuration, then you can’t do without alterations here, because you can’t please everyone. This is where the material that will be discussed comes in handy. So, let's talk about GKL.
Advantage over other materials
To begin with, let's analyze the abbreviation "GKL", what it is. And this is the notorious drywall sheet. The first letter - "G", stands for gypsum, the second ("K") - cardboard. It is produced in the form of sheets, hence the letter "L".
The material is a rectangular sheet of gypsum, pasted over on both sides with cardboard. GKL are sold in the following sizes: 1.2 m wide and 2.5 m, 3.0 m long. For the convenience of lifting to the upper floors, sheets of 2.0 m are produced in the elevator.
Why is drywall so good? Firstturn, price. With all the seeming rather big cost, GCRs allow you to save not only money, but also time and nerves. If you don’t believe me, try to replace drywall with plaster, simple or textured, at least in one room. If you prepare the solution yourself, then calculate the cost of cement, sand. And don't forget the water bill. Besides, then you have to wash the floors.
If you want to buy a ready-made plaster mixture, read the material consumption per 1 square meter on the bag. Seems cheap? Only the consumption is written for a layer thickness of up to 1 centimeter, but if you need to level all five? Then multiply the cost by five and, when comparing prices, do not forget that one drywall sheet has an area of 3 square meters.
Now about the properties of the material. The GCR device is gypsum and cardboard processed using a special technology. Sheets have water-repellent properties, which prevents the formation of mold and fungus. With a relatively small thickness, drywall, even without additional materials, is in itself a good way to insulate residential premises. Ease of installation, ease of use - these are the undeniable advantages of GKL. Even a novice in construction knows what it is.
Types of drywall sheets
There are two main types of GKL produced by the industry today. This is:
- wall;
- ceiling.
They differ in thickness. Wall sheet - 14 mm, ceiling - 9.5 mm. Accordingly, the weight of wall plasterboards is greater. It is perfectly acceptable to use ceiling sheets on walls, if at the same time youuse additional heaters. This way you can save on the difference in cost, although it is small.
When choosing drywall, you will notice that it has a different color. This is due to the fact that the material is also classified by resistance to impact factors. For convenience, sheets are highlighted in different colors:
- gray - regular;
- green - moisture resistant;
- pink - heat resistant.
Be sure to set them according to this gradation.
Types of FCL
Gypsum boards, depending on the structural application, also differ in the types of side edge. If you are going to decorate the walls with decorative plaster, it is advisable to choose a GKL with a rounded edge (ZK). You will putty with a mesh along the seam, then a refined edge (UK) on the front side will do. Without mesh application (PLC) - a semicircular edge on the front side. The universal edge, on which you can either glue the mesh or not glue it, is designated as follows - PLUK. The straight edge (PC) on the sheets is designed for mounting without grouting.
Scope of material
Thanks to all the listed properties and, first of all, the ease of execution of work, drywall is widely used in interior decoration. Enter any building and you will see GKL partitions. Walls, various structures, and decorative elements are built from the same material. Quite popular multi-level ceiling. GCR is the best fit for its creation.
Experts make furnishings from drywall:shelves, cornices, niches and stands. And there are decorative fireplaces from GKL in almost every second apartment. Attics and basements in dachas and in homestead houses are almost completely initially finished with this material. And in general, drywall sheets as an alternative to plaster are simply irreplaceable. Now almost everyone will tell about the GKL, what it is, almost everyone knows. But few people will say what this material was called before. It was called dry plaster.
Mounting sheets with glue
Two main methods of fastening GKL fully satisfy the requirements of all types of repairs. Consider them separately.
The first method is gluing. In rooms that do not require additional insulation, drywall sheets are attached directly to the wall. To do this, the surfaces must first be treated: remove dust and dirt, and then primed. After that, we apply an adhesive on the sheets cut to size and press them against the wall, controlling the vertical plane by level.
The method seems to be simple, but you should pay attention to the consistency of the glue. It should not be very liquid or thick. Apply it correctly with spot strokes with a distance of 30-40 cm from each other. Do not spare glue, it is better to press it harder than to be afraid that the sheet will fall off. We press, or rather tap, the sheet with a rubber mallet, you can put a flat board and beat harder.
After the glue has hardened, you can play it safe and additionally fix the GKL with dowel-nails. Take dowels with fungi and drive in so that the heads are completely hidden. This method of attaching drywall sheets, although it helps to save a little space, is still narrowly focused. It is impossible to make a structure or level the ceiling with such an installation; it is also impossible to use insulation. For these purposes, the installation of GKL on the profile is used.
Mounting on profile frame
When applying this method, the main thing is to create a strong and perfectly even structure from profiles in all respects. You should immediately take a pencil and wherever possible: on the floor, wall, ceiling - draw the outlines of the future structure. Then we take a screwdriver and self-tapping screws, with their help we fasten the sheets cut to size.
A slightly more laborious process is the creation of a two- or three-level ceiling. Here the difficulty lies precisely in the correct fixation and construction of the profile frame. But the drywall sheets themselves are cut and stacked without visible effort. Even if you need to bend the GKL strips onto the figured structure, just soak them in warm water. After that, they will ideally bend and screw onto the frame. That's all that can be said about the GKL. What is it, you now know. A few words about profiles should also be added.
Profile for drywall constructions
Previously, the profile for GKL was sold in two types - UD and SD. Either there were no others in our country, or the industry did not produce them at all. Today, which cannot but please master finishers, a number of special, improved products have appeared. In addition to the already mentioned UD (30x28 mm in size) and SD (27x60 mm), you can freelypurchase a reinforced profile on the ceiling (GKL is attached to it perfectly). There is also a universal rack-mount (50x50) and extended (with dimensions 65, 70, 100x50 mm) for partitions, a guide and even an angular profile (angle - 85 degrees) on sale.
All this GKL profile and other fastening material are designed to make the frame stronger and more reliable, and the installation work as easy and simple as possible.
Tool used
You don't need a lot of tools to cut the drywall sheets themselves. Pencil, ruler and knife - that's the whole simple set. A tape measure and, in extreme cases, a special grater will come in handy.
But making a frame from a profile is another matter. First of all, you will need a water and building levels, as well as a center line. For profiles - metal shears and pliers. Hammer and perforator - for mounting on dowels. A drill, drills and a screwdriver will be useful. You will have to use a square, a compass and a set of various nozzles for cutting holes. These tools will help you quickly and efficiently mount the construction of drywall sheets.
