Gypsum boards - the material is very popular today. It is mainly used for wall and ceiling cladding. It is also often used for the manufacture of partitions and various kinds of decorative elements. The dimensions and thickness of the GKL sheets may be different. They should be chosen according to what exactly they are supposed to be used for.
What is the material
GKL is called special sheets made of gypsum and covered on both sides with multilayer cardboard. Their main advantages include ease of processing, low weight, environmental friendliness. GKL also has a rather high degree of strength. Cardboard protects the gypsum sheet from mechanical damage and destruction as a result of internal stress.
Today, the following types of drywall can be found on sale:
- wall;
- moisture resistant;
- flame retardant;
- arched;
- ceiling.
Wall drywall
This is the most popular and commonly used variety. As the name suggests, this material is used primarily for wall decoration. This is the heaviest of the GKL. The dimensions of the wall drywall sheet are 1.2x2.5 m. There are also varieties of the same width, but shorter or longer: 1.5, 2, 3 meters.
The wall drywall has a length of 12.5 cm. This allows it to be used as a base for the heaviest finishing materials: tiles, decorative plaster, porcelain stoneware, etc. GKL sheet size 12.5 is standard. Therefore, it is not difficult to calculate the number of plates required in a particular case. You just need to divide the total length of the walls by 1.2.
Making partitions during the redevelopment of a room is also what wall plasterboard is used for. The dimensions of this type of sheet and the thickness of the material allow you to quickly assemble strong and durable structures.
Mount GKL wall usually on a metal or wooden frame. In this case, the joints are sealed with special means. The result is perfectly smooth walls. Sometimes sheets of this type are also used for ceiling cladding. However, since they are too thick, they are mainly used to create even surfaces.
Ceiling sheets
This is also a fairly popular type of GKL. Sheet dimensions (their thickness is 9.5 cm) of this type are usually 1.2x2.5 m. This type of plasterboard is used to create various kinds of curved andwave structures. Due to their smaller thickness, such sheets are bent much lighter than wall sheets. In addition, they are light in weight, and therefore, when installing them, you can use fewer mounting profiles.
Of course, this variety is inferior in strength to wall GCR. The dimensions of the sheets for drywall of this type are the same, but the thickness is less. However, since they are extremely rarely exposed to mechanical stress on the ceiling, this does not really matter.
Arched drywall
This variety is used during finishing work much less often than the first two. The thickness of the arched drywall is only 6.5 cm. Therefore, it can be bent without soaking in water, using needle rollers, etc. This type of drywall is used mainly for the manufacture of various kinds of decorative elements.
Also, sometimes strongly curved parts of ceilings and partitions are made from it. However, in this case it is usually mounted in 2-4 layers. This type of GCR, of course, does not differ in strength due to its very small thickness.
Moisture and fire resistant drywall
These two types have a standard thickness of 12.5mm. Moisture-resistant GKL is used for finishing bathrooms, swimming pools, bathrooms, that is, rooms with high humidity. Such drywall differs from the usual one in that it has a green color and is not afraid of water. Otherwise, it is completely identical to the wall plasterboard. The sheet dimensions of this type are also 1.2x2.5 m.
Flame retardantdrywall is used mainly for finishing stoves and fireplaces. The sizes of plates of this type are also standard - 1.2x2.5 m.
Small sheets
Recently, drywall and other sizes can be found on sale: 0.6x1.2, 2, 2.5, 3 m. Such sheets are convenient for finishing the slopes of doors and windows. Their thickness is standard - 12.5 mm. For finishing large surfaces and making partitions, despite their strength, they are not used. The fact is that if there are many joints in the skin, it will turn out to be unstable, therefore, not of very high quality.
Producers
Of course, when buying GKL, you should pay attention not only to its variety and size. You also need to look at who issued the sheets. The most popular in our time is Knauf brand drywall. This manufacturer produces sheets from the highest quality material, so they are strong and durable. The sheet size of the GKL "Knauf" is standard. Both 1.2 and 0.6 m wide options are available. The length can be 1.5-3 m.
Very popular in our country are such brands of drywall as Rigips and Lafarge. GKL of these manufacturers is also distinguished by quality, durability and ease of installation. The price for all three brands of drywall is about the same.
Thus, we have found out what the standard GCR sheet has. 1.2x2.5m - in fact, very convenient dimensions, allowing you to build reliable partitions and mount a durable finish. If necessary, sheathingslopes, ceilings or the manufacture of some decorative elements, you can always pick up sheets of other, more suitable sizes, or thicknesses.
