Today, plastic doors and windows can be seen everywhere - in offices and shops, in schools and administrative buildings. The advantages of these structures were appreciated by the owners of apartments and houses - no dust and noise, spectacular appearance, easy maintenance, affordable price.
But plastic doors can fail over time. In some cases, they can be repaired with your own hands.
When might repairs be needed?
Even the highest quality plastic product after a certain period of operation will definitely need repair (or adjustment). Quite often, repair of plastic windows and doors may be required earlier than the period declared by the manufacturer, for example, when they are installed in the first year after the commissioning of a building that may sag. In this case, the profile may be skewed.
Repair of plastic entrance doors, as a rule, is required less frequently, but subject to a number of conditions. For front doorthe quality of its installation is especially important. Unskilled and even simply inexperienced installers, not knowing all the intricacies of this process, can make many serious mistakes.
In addition, unscrupulous manufacturers often use low-quality, cheap fittings. As a result of such savings, there is a gap between the wall and the door, its subsidence, the curvature of the opening, as well as the loose fit of the sash.
Entrance doors
Such models differ from interior doors in the thickness of the double-glazed window and profile, but their hinges are similar. They differ from balcony models in the absence of a folding mechanism, the type of hinges.
Three hinges are usually installed on the front doors. They may differ in design and clamping mechanism, and therefore in the way of adjustment.
Door skew
Consider the case when the plastic doors are skewed. Repair must begin with the removal of the decorative strip on the loop, which is installed on the canvas. First, the door is opened and the screw that holds the bar is unscrewed. After that, the door is closed and the bar is removed. Under it you will see six mounting screws (for a screwdriver) and one adjusting screw (for a hexagon). By unscrewing or screwing it in, you can adjust the offset of the door relative to the vertical by 5 mm (in any direction).
How to lower or raise the sash?
Sometimes, over time, plastic doors seem to cling to the threshold. Repair in this case involvesraising the sash. To do this, use the adjusting screw (turnkey), which is located at the bottom end of the loop.
It is closed by a decorative strip, which can be easily "unfastened". Thus, the door can be raised by four millimeters or lowered by one millimeter.
How to adjust the pressure?
There are two types of such adjustment:
- Fine adjustment. It is carried out within one and a half millimeters with the help of a screw located at the upper end of the loop.
- Rough adjustment. In this case, the door is removed from the hinges, and then the part of the hinge mounted on the frame is adjusted with a screw.
Repair of plastic balcony doors
The problems of this type of door are in many ways similar to the problems of the input models. Over time, they can warp, which is more due to temperature differences (especially when the balcony is not glazed and not insulated). Therefore, the repair of plastic balcony doors is carried out according to the same principle.
Furniture manufacturers may have some differences in adjustment methods, but basically they are similar. Horizontal adjustment to the left or right is carried out using two screws that are located in the upper or lower hinge. When the sash is open, both screws are clearly visible. The lower one is located in the support part of the hinge located on the box.
Vertical adjustment is done with a screw that can be seen in the bottom hinge. It's closeddecorative strip. By unscrewing or screwing it, the door can be raised or lowered. The pressure is adjusted by turning the eccentrics, which are located at the end (vertical) of the door leaf.
Common Faults
Repair and adjustment of plastic windows and doors have quite a lot in common. The most common plastic door failures are:
- handle broken;

- problems with closers.

Handle repair
This is the biggest problem with plastic doors. If you encounter it, we recommend that you replace it. Make it simple. Rotate ninety degrees the plate (decorative) located at the base of the handle. Then, using a screwdriver, unscrew all the screws and replace the failed handle with a new one.
Now a logical question arises: do all cases require replacement of the entire mechanism? No, not in all. When the handle is intact, but it turns too hard, it is enough to treat all moving mechanisms with special grease.
Door Sagging
Consumers often experience sagging doors. This problem is easy to deal with. Adjust the position of the door first. You will need a hex wrench for this. Insert it into the bottom loop and turn it clockwise. So you can easily and quickly lift the door leaf to the desired position.
Room repair
Thisa common problem faced by people who have plastic doors installed. Repair of the lever rod is not always possible on your own. As a rule, owners are faced with its bending, kinking, jamming at the joints, or damage to the mounting location. You need to know that without the help of specialists, you can only repair some damage to the rod. Usually in these cases, welding is used. Closer repair
The door closer can also fail. This small mechanism ensures that the door closes quietly and smoothly. You can repair it yourself. You need to be very careful - the closer does not provide for disassembly, so in this case it is better to replace the mechanism completely.
Windows
We told you about the repair of plastic doors. Window repair is carried out in a similar way. But there are some features.
Quite often, in plastic windows, the rubber seal located around the perimeter of the sash wears out over time. This violates the tightness of the window, the sound insulation worsens, the structure begins to let air through.
Sealing may be affected by heat distortion. That is why it shouldperiodically adjust the window. When closing the sash, to increase the sealing, turn the trunnion (a protruding rounded cylinder). It is located in the slots of the metal plugs. Rotate it towards the inside of the window. If you need to reduce the sealing, then turn this element to the outside.
