The term plinth usually means the lower belt of the facade, designed to protect it from dirt and damage. It should be made of durable materials that not only decorate the facade, but also can serve as a reliable barrier to moisture. Usually the basement reaches the floor level of the first floors. Its height should not be lower than 20 centimeters so that it performs its functions correctly. The lining of the plinth can be done in one of many ways. You can consider some of them.
First, preparatory work is required. The base from the foundation to the upper level must be even and solid, not contaminated. Irregularities larger than 5 millimeters should be eliminated. Before the plinth is lined, it is necessary to walk on the surface with a primer. This will reduce water absorption.grounds.
Facing the plinth with stone tiles
This type of finish looks spectacular, but it is also very expensive. Most often it is made of limestone or sandstone, however, you can also find options from granite and marble. The size of the tiles can be arbitrary, as well as their texture. Installation is quite simple. The tile is glued with a special adhesive mortar for stone. The use of a different type of adhesive sometimes results in cracks and flaking of the stone tiles. The plinth cladding must be protected by a cornice (if the former protrudes beyond the wall). Otherwise, everything will crumble after frost.
Of course, other materials can be used. The stone for facing the plinth looks quite impressive. Outwardly, this solution resembles a structure made of natural stone, although work is being done using concrete. Artificial stone has excellent performance characteristics (due to the fact that it contains various mixtures and aggregates). Dyes added to the mass allow for noteworthy variations of colors and shades, which opens up a lot of design possibilities. Facing the basement with artificial stone is carried out in full accordance with the recommendations specified by the manufacturer. The material is glued to an elastic or ordinary adhesive solution. The seams must be filled with a special mixture. After preparing the base, it will be possible to protect it with special water-repellent agents that can extend its life. Surfacesuch a plan looks very good for a very long time, while the cost of work is much lower than in the case of using natural stone.
Another attractive option is to clad the plinth with porcelain stoneware. This material is quite popular, which is easy enough to explain. Among the positive properties of porcelain stoneware are the following:
- attractive appearance provided by a variety of tint options for tiles;
- heat resistance;
- resistance to all kinds of external influences;
- high strength.
It is worth saying that the plinth lining is a rather important procedure that allows you to protect the building from negative environmental factors.
